Should There Be Another Halo Title?

In my personal opinion, I think that the Halo franchise has run its course, and it is frankly the foundation for one of my top favorite scifi tales. However, it seems that even after Halo: Reach completed the circle for the primary trilogy of Halo games, recounting the tale from the largest, most desperate battle of the Human-Covenant War to the fall of the Prophets and the destruction of the Gravemind on Installation 00. Of course, there was also ODST and Wars to add to the pool of Halo titles, but what I can't stop thinking is that maybe Bungie or 343 Industries should begin thinking about a new series, doubtless working with the qualities learned from the Halo games.

For instance, I could stand to see some console reboots of Marathon. Given that Halo was essentially made using everything that Marathon had, why not reverse this and remake Marathon in the image of Halo. I've never played Marathon, and I find it is rather difficult to get a chance to, so that would be a wonderful opportunity for Bungie/343 Industries, or maybe a completely brand new series.

If anything, i would prefer not to see a new Halo game. What do you, my fellow Escapists, think? (Please, do not flame Halo. This is a discussion zone, not a battle zone. )

As a Halo fan, I'd also prefer it if Reach was the last game in the series. I feel it would be better if the series retired with dignity. As someone who's also a Star Wars fan, I know what it's like to see a beloved franchise wither and die for the sake of milking it for every dime it's worth.

A Marathon reboot is a very cool idea. Another possible candidate is Pathways Into Darkness, Bungie's first shooter.

As far as I'm concerned, the series ended with reach.

I don't care if microsoft start milking it, if bungie have dropped out, it's over.

As far as I'm concerned, it ended with Halo CE.

So no, another game is just overstretching it even more.

I'd like them to try another RTS in similar vein to Men Of War, but then again i everyone to make something in similar vein to that RTS.

The Halo lore is MASSSIVE i see no reason they cant branch out and explore other PoV or periods of the war, or other wars entirely.

Make more games, make more money, give the people what they want. Most people don't care how much back story Halo has or how fleshed out the universe is, they just want another space age shooter. Why would Microsoft kill that when they have such a strong brand recognition?

Halo has long since gone the way of 'yeller. They just keep churning out games with no new mechanics, slight graphical updates, and a campaign that would have to try hard to be less interesting. The only thing that saved the games was the multiplayer, which with Halo 3 also became quite stale. Then the only thing that saved the game was Grifball, which Reach found a way to drag out and make much less fun. Unless they decide to mix the game up a fair deal, or do some form of innovation then I think the world of Halo should just be left alone for a long time.

TL;DR - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've loved the Halo series thus far and is my favorite game series to play online out of everything. But with Reach come and gone and Bungie no longer on the project... 343 is on thin ice with me.

I'll give em a shot. I really don't see how a company that's basically Microsoft is gonna make a great Halo game though. I'd happily take a pleasant suprise but I see Halo going the way of CoD.

New releases less than a year apart each improving near minimally on the last.

At least Bungie tried to mix it up every game, but there's always a minority of the fanbase that thinks every change to the last game was a failure and has killed the series. Happened with 2, happened with 3, happened with Reach. I wish best of luck to Bungie as they move on and hope they keep making kick ass games.

Yes.

Only if done with care though.

I trust 343 because of the genius they pulled with cryptum, evolutons, and legends to a lesser extent.

Make it canonically intersting, not just a good game.

I think it would be good if it was about the Forerunners or Ghosts of Onyx. I would actually love ODST 2, because if time was spent on it rather than rushing out what was meant to be a Halo 3 expansion, it could be amazing.

Not paticularly Halo but, bungie should make a new series that is like a third person halo, since they are making games for activision, it will be on the ps3 and xbox, so i would like to see how it would turn out.

After Halo 2 on the Xbox it was going downhill with all the Halo title's.
I am just glad its over before it would be completly ruined.
Pardon me for my english.

I say continue it, theres a lot of potential in the Halo setting, but its barely been acted upon.

The possibilities are endless, but all the Halo games thus far except for Wars have been the same thing over and over.
It would be great if they did something different, but they probably never will.

No. They've made plenty of Halo games and said there not going to continue so they should focus their resources of something new for now, try to create something original and cool aside for the old franchise.

I've enjoyed Halo a lot and am sad to see the series end. At the same time, I'm glad that the series ends with Reach. It is a fitting end to a great series.

Bungie will be making no more Halo games. That being said, seing as Microsoft owns the rights to Halo, I doubt they will let it die now. Not while there's precious money to be made from the stagnation of a wonderful series. As much as it pains me to say it, I don't think that Microsoft is going to let Halo go softly into that cold night.
