Ok, so while listening to the latest episode of Laser Time [http://www.lasertimepodcast.com/2012/09/25/laser-time-reinventing-jesus-h-christ/], they mentioned that a show they wanted to do was one about shows within shows (such as Itchy and Scratchy, and Tool Time), but they felt that they didn't have enough content to sustain a whole episode.

I don't think that's not true though. There's a bunch out there! So Escapists, what are some of your favorite shows/movies/games/etc. within shows/movies/games/etc.?

I'll start things off with Raul's Wild Kingdom from UHF:

I liked that game part that they had in the movie Metal Gear Solid 4.

Jokes aside, that one hidden top down zombie shooting game in Call of Duty: Black Ops was pretty sweet.

That one show in Robocop which seems to be just some old guy surrounded by scantily clad women while saying "I'd buy that for a dollar" might be the best idea for a show ever.

There are quite a few games which have (mini) games or shows within them. Nothing special there. For movies and series it's more uncommon. I actually can't recall a good example except for Kujibiki Unbalance [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kujibiki_Unbalance].

The obvious answer is Itchy and Scratchy. However, I'm a very big fan of Night Springs... ;)

Watch the whole playlist. It's worth it...

EDIT: Also, anyone who understands the following reference is my war buddy for life :D

Aaah I loved that film. One of my favourite lines is definitely the one about chainsaws. "They're just too damn heavy!"

It was full of a bunch of one-liners, really. It was quite funny.

Apparently there's a sequel in the works, Bruce vs Frankenstein or something. Can he pull it off again?

It's not yet filming and the last news about it was from 2010 (that I've seen), so I wouldn't hold my breath hoping it'll even get made. But if it does, it'll probably be funny.

I would probably pay good money to see a Blasto movie from the Mass Effect series. What's not to love about a wisecracking hanar Spectre?

Also, the random TV shows in Gens III to V of Pokemon make me laugh. They have a whole title sequence in text, the presenter says maybe two sentences, then the show ends. I just imagine TV channels in the Pokemon world filled with endless title sequences, a reporter saying "Holy moly! There's more of Pokemon X on Route Y today! That's all!", then credits roll, rinse and repeat.

I did I forget Blasto?

And I remember the Pokemon shows. Damn, those introductions were long. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHERE AN OUTBREAK IS!

Currently watching Garth Marhengi's Darkplace.

Hard to say if it's itself is a show within a show, but the actual show (Garth Marhengi's Darkplace, a parody of pre-X-Files Mystery/Horror TV with stylistic suck the likes of wich have never been seen) is framed within the fictional context of having been "too extreme" in the 80ies and has an introduction bit as well as (fictional) Interview bits spliced into the episodes.

Other than that, first thing i'm coming up with is Max Payne, especially the second Game in wich the TV parodies are named and have a bit of an ongoing storyline.

As far as i remember it was:

- Max Heat: A parody of the first game's story with a blaxploitation style instead of Film Noir
- Lords and Ladies: Over-The-Top Costume Soap Opera.
- Captain Baseball Bat Boy: "Animated" Adaption of the fictional Newspaper Comic seen in the first Game (Also unfortunately the only one seen in Max Payne 3...with portugese Dub)
- Address Unknown: Cult Noir/Mystery Series slightly referencing Twin Peaks.

EDIT: Also, The Darkness (first Game) had Episodes of the original Flash Gordon Serial as well as the full version of To Kill a Mockingbird within, does that count?
