Xbox Entertainment Studios is deep in negotiations with Showtime to develop a live-action ?Halo? drama series that is a high priority for the Microsoft production unit headed by Nancy Tellem.

Xbox Studios has been developing a drama series spin on the vidgame franchise with Steven Spielberg?s Amblin TV banner for more than a year. It?s understood that the company is close to a deal with a pair of showrunners to steer the series adaptation of the expansive bible developed by screenwriter Stuart Beattie, but the deal is not envisioned as a straight-to-series pickup.
Not surprised that Microsoft is looking for someone to share the cost with as I imagine the budget per episode is rather high and either Showtime or HBO makes a lot of sense.

Great, a franchise with a story that's been getting progressively worst for years now being produced by a has-been who's career jumped the shark for quality decades ago? How could this possibly go wrong?

If only he didn't do Band Of Brothers or The Pacific.

...oh wait.

I'd rather him do the follow up to those he had planned than Halo honestly.
Who's to say this series won't end up Band Of Brothers: ODST or something like it?

If you ask me, that is probably one of the best directions they could take this, even if it's not the most original idea. A story about the struggles of a squad or platoon of regular soldiers in the war against the Covenant, with the stakes becoming increasingly desperate as the losses accumulate, ground is lost and it becomes ever more clear that humanity is outnumbered and outgunned. Leave Spartans mostly out of it except for brief glimpses of badassery and the resulting aftermath, so they don't outshine the main cast and are more beings of hearsay and legend. Keep it simple and human.
