Shutdown on Opening Skyrim Map with New GPU - 6970 2gb

Hey all,

Just upgraded to a HD 6970 from my HD 4850 Golden Sample. Used to run Skyrim easily on highish settings.

Now whenever I open the map, regardless of graphics options, my entire system reboots. No error messages, just black screen then reboot.

It's not a temperature issue - GPU stays at 60/70c under load. CPU gets to max 70c.

Specs are below:

Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
HD 6970 2Gb
8Gb Ripjaws X DDR3
GA-P35C-DS3R
Vantec ION2+ 550W

I know it's not a power problem - I ran Fumark + Intel burn test to get 100%/100% usages, and the system was stable. BF3 on Ultra is fine. It's just the Skyrim map. And only the Skyrim map.

Any ideas? Getting really frustrating now.

Under System Properties, advanced tab, Startup and Recovery button... uncheck "Automatically restart" under System Failure.

Then see if your reboot turns into a blue screen.

Hey mate, just tried that. No change - shuts down immediately Just like in this video:

Any other ideas? Trying the new 12.8 Catalyst to see if that helps.
