So yeah I'm interested in the HD Collection, I never got a chance to play the ones on PS2 and I heard the new ones are a bit crap, so would anyone recommend it?

The game play is untouched, I've read some things about there being no fog in the HD versions and people say that that makes it less scary, I'd say you'd probably still enjoy them though.

I have it on 360 and it looks fine. Not great by modern standards, but upscaled from the PS2 days. And yes, there is fog. I think the fog issue is primarily a PS3 issue.

Yes. YES! As long as you can handle the dated gameplay :)

I heard they ruined the older games by removing the fog from the world, which was originally there to hide what the game couldn't render, but added to the atmosphere of the game. Nothing can really jump out at you if you can see EVERYTHING. It's like Lucas adding that god awful CGI Jaba the Hutt in the special edition. The original was perfect, don't try to fix what isn't broken.

Only a little of the fog was removed. Not all of it :)

Although IT DID make the lake scene look terrible, but that was it.

I'm just going on hearsay from people I know who are REALLY big Silent Hill fans. I, for one, am not and could not tell you one from another. I do however understand why the newest iteration of the series haven't been up to the standards of the first and second games. Such as Downpour having zero subtly and having extremely lackluster and uninspired monster design.

This one knows what he speaks. I just finished Silent Hill 3 and the gameplay and story are exactly the same. I didn't even really notice a difference in the graphics. I played it on the PS3 and there was plenty of fog and still a few jump scares and just plain feelings of uneasiness.
Be warned though: the controls are...odd. They will take some getting used to, and until you get the Steel Pipe in the 3rd game, be ready to run away a LOT.

As a side note, if you turn the subtitles on, there are a few instances where the words don't match what is being said. There are also a few parts where the dialogue REALLY doesn't match the lip movement. Like, not even close, but that doesn't show up until near the end of the game. Also, there was one thing that was cut from 3. After a certain character gets killed, you're suppose to be able to check out the body and hear Heather's thoughts. Oddly, in the new version, the body disappears and you can't do that.

But yes, these games are worth playing, especially if you've never played them. Personally I think some people are just whining. Pick the collection up.

Generally, I'd say to just stick to the original versions. The HD "upgrade" was really more of a downgrade in so many ways.

Yeah well, when are the superfans EVER happy? :p

Can't comment on downpour yet. But yeah the enemies seem to be lacking. Still looks quite good though.

There is very little difference between the HD and original.

I loved the originals and recently got the HD collection and besides a little bit of fog missing in some scenes it's no bloody different.

Having played it on the 360 but never played the oringal versions, I thought the fog effects were fine - apparently the massive fog removal is on the PS3 due to how it works.

Thought it was alot better than Downpour anyway (which felt average at best...)

...your kidding me right?? removing all of the fog ruins the game or atmosphere silent hill is trying create. Now if you have an xbox with no other way of getting it fine however if you have ps3 or ps2 re buy the original games for the love god. Seeing the actual textures they couldn't render like a rope stuck out to shore is crappy then comes the horrible lag and crashes it suffers.

The fog is more or less the same as the originals throughout the game barring a few cut scenes.

People see a few screenshots and go on like the fogs gone throughout the game, it hasn't.

And what lag and crashes?

I've gone through 2 and 3 (on PS3) and had no issues at all.
