I realize this game is really old, but I'm hoping someone still plays it. I can't figure out how to win at a city on hard mode (Where you only have a 10k bond). I can do medium okay, but I just can't get my head around this at all. I just can't get beyond maybe 10-15 years. I keep running out of money to do anything and then I just issue another bond, which gets me anyway. ANY suggestions?

Just build a chunk of light residential, shove a couple power lines in it, some water, only one road, a cheap power station. Don't complicate at all, and save alot.

It's been ages since I played SimCity, hope this helps.

.....isn't that the point of hard, to make it difficult to win? If you're having trouble, just try changing up your tactics. Something must work.

Thanks. Why didn't I think of that? Seriously, there is not much information except beginner and intermediate.

Thanks. Maybe I'll try a cheaper power station. The only problem is the cheap ones are all pretty terrible. Maybe hydro.

I finally got it! (I think.) Just hydro and don't water them. No police stations or schools or anything. I doubt anyone cares anymore but here it is.

That's a pretty sad thing to do, especially with such a complicated, old, and unpopular game like SimCity 2000.
Such a thing is why the escapist has an ignore function.

Promode city with almost no effort: Build your city in blocks. I can't remember the exact distance sims will walk to get to transportation, but I think it's 4 squares. So if you build each modular block like this:

xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxppppxxxx
xxxxppppxxxx
xxxxppppxxxx
xxxxppppxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx

Where each p is a 1x1 park square (You can easily just use a 3x3 park expanded out with some 1x1 parks to get the 4x4 block) and each x is a 1x1 zone block; what will happen is that the land value for that area will be absolutely huge, giving you maximum tax revenue. From there, layer your city out as well as possible so that you have your industrial and residential sections seperated by commercial districts. This will minimize crime issues which will reduce the amount of cop shops you have to build. When building your public services like cops and hospitals, use the map overlays to figure out where to place them so you get the most bang for your buck.
By using modular city planning and appropriate use of zone buffering, it gets ludicrously simple to build up a massively huge city that will rack up a hefty profit. I actually stopped playing SC2000 once I figured this out just because the game got too easy.

I thought it was 3X3 close to the road for them to build. And you don't really need horizontal roads, just vertical. But it causes BAD traffic problems. It is getting easier. Now that I know how to do hard, I think, I don't know if there's much more I can do with this game.
