Remember that Liara T'Soni figurine? Developer Bioware gave her smaller breasts after the feedback from fans.

Back when Bioware asked for feedback about the figurine, fans let them know that they found the statue "overly sexist", "horribly shaped" and "without a soul". The developer processed that information into the new prototype. The pictures of the new model can be found on the website of Kotobukiya [http://main.kotobukiya.co.jp/artfx_mass_effect_liara/], the company responsible for making the statue.

Although I still find the figurine and bit too manga-esque, it's still a huge (small?) improvement. :)
Even though I still think that it looks nothing like Liara.

Is it just me, or is the prototype statue derping pretty hard? (The one on the left)

Also, the new statue technically shows more boobage than the old statue, even if the breasts are smaller. Which is weird.

I think the new model is exponentially better, even aside from the breasts. "Without a soul" is a pretty good description of the first one--she's not looking at anything and her expression says absolutely nothing. The only thing she's seems to actively be doing is squishing her melons together. But in the new one, she's clearly looking AT you, and her expression holds a bit of a challenge. That does more to draw attention away from her breasts than them being smaller, I think. Being a female myself I don't really mind big breasts on their own. They exist, and sometimes they're big. I'm okay with that. But when they're the only features being given any thought, or they're being shown as the main traits of the character, then it bothers me.

Granted, I still find the pose to be cliche and a bit absurd, but it is still a vast improvement.

It's not that people don't love boobs, it's that it's rather annoying when they are the only significant feature on the character. The first figurine has no substance, her face is totally blank and lacks any sort of expression or purpose. The second pose is still rather pointless, but at least there's a bit of a fire in her eyes.

The first one looks cross-eyed... -_-

And while the second one is an 'improvement'... they're both shit, it pulls off too much 'anime moe-ness' and the mouth bugs me... ¬_¬

At all.
agreed!

Note to anyone creating a statue of a female.... that's not how boobs work!

they arn't pointy like the above instant, and if there that big, she wouldn't be smiling, she'd be in pain and looking for the best support bra on the market!

It's just a figurine, this has as much impact on my life and my enjoyment of Mass Effect as those life sized statues of Noble Team had an effect on my opinion and enjoyment of Halo, IE absolutely nothing at all.

Oh, come on! She's clearly stuffing! =P

EDIT: Something just occurred to me... and I know it's all sci-fi etc. etc. but it has all the anime flaws of never being able to show a character's age... isn't Liara supposed to be around a hundred or something?! Give her something resembling a sagely appearance, ffs...

... never mind...

1. Generic anime face. Doesn't even remotely resemble Liara. The only reason anyway can tell is because of the outfit. Stick it in a generic Asari Commando suit and you'd never be able to tell.

2. If they were actually attempting to make Lira, she wouldn't be smiling, especially not like a little schoolgirl who just saw a dick (lolsterotypicaljapaneseanimeinsults). She should look more serious. If this is for ME3, the fate of the galaxy is at stake, why would she be smiling? If it's just from the ME2 Liara, she'd still be more serious.

Other than that, that's some very good craftsmanship and painting.

The one on the right looks much better, I'll give them that. I'm not sure what reference images they were going off of to attempt to recreate Liara, but they clearly failed. It still doesn't look anything like her. That's a shame, because I would have totally bought one.

[sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]...for the record, making boobs smaller is an outright atrocity![/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]

I guess it slighter better but it still terrible and doesn?t look like Liara. Looks more like random Asari stole her clothes and then started posing in front of mirror.

This again?

Not to be overly negative, but, well... it still looks like shit.

Funny thing is, I don't hate it for the obvious reasons. Not because it's trying to be "sexy". Not because of the boobage. Not because I like the actual character. Not because I object to the 'anime-ification' of a Mass Effect thing. Not because they took an intelligent, determined and slightly ruthless character and decided to portray her as a underage stripper for the benefit of the sweatier breed of fan.

Nope, none of that. I hate it because it just looks really fucking goofy. Sufficiently so that i am obliged to object on purely aesthetic grounds.

...

Seriously, who actually buys this stuff?
