Today?s review I picked a online shooter called smoking guns, this game is sort of a hit and miss game if you ask me it has some ideas that work and some basic things that don?t work and that tends to bug me. The first thing you need to know about this game is that it is a mix up of counter strike and the Wild West.
The game runs on the quake 3 engine so don?t get ready for the next big thing in graphics, but this is a free game we are talking about so graphics are something you should not care about. The game has really just 3 types of game play with the variant types. The first two are your standards you want death match and objective based (only it is called bank robbery), the last one really works with the wild west fell that the game has, it is called duel and pretty much there are 5 areas in the map with 5 groups of two duel in a quick draw event. The neat thing about this is that you can only have handguns and you have to manually draw you gun from the holster. The game bank robbery really is one group has a safe with money in it open the safe and take the money to your spawn point to win but the game can be over if you kill all your enemies if you get the money or kill the other team you get the same amount of points which begs the question why? The other fluff types are round team which is a 1 life a round team death match and team death match which if you never have heard of them were the hell have you been?
The game has two main things that hurt it the first is the bots, the bots in this game are the worst I have ever seen there are so many times that you will see them get stuck when more than 1 tries to go through the door. They have many other problems too like they shoot at walls, reload with one bullet missing when in a gun fight and run in to fire and stand near the tnt that is about to go off. The second big thing is that the internet games are hard to find friends so never plan to play with a friend because you will never find the same server that they are on. The game has many minor problems with it too like when you get shot you freeze in your spot and can?t move or even turn letting the enemy pick you off really fast.
Well it may seem like this game is bad it does have some interesting things going for it. The main thing I like is that this game has an in fight shop that you can buy weapons and armor from. There are 3 hand guns 3 shottys 3 rifles and 1 mg. this lets you plan out your fight style. This game has some slight things too like if you throw a unlighted Molotov then a lit one the unlit one will burst in to flames and if you then through a stick of tnt in to the flames it will explode.
All and all I give this game a c. it really is to flawed for me to give any higher.
