"Snip"?

I'm fairly new to the Escapist and I've noticed on a number of threads people post a quote saying "snip". What does this mean?

When a post is overly long or people just want to get the posters attention, they delete whats in the quote and insert snip

It's the shortening of a really long post in order to not cause confusion.

It is for when you want to make it clear who you are referring to, but feel their post is too long to keep around.

It's also useful as it sends a PM to the inbox of the person you've quoted, that way they get notified of the fact you're trying to talk to them, or agree with them.

That or it just annoys them, just like my post is probably doing to Souplex right now.

Snipping is a useful tool, however. No doubt about it.

Hey, if you've gotta say something, say it. Don't worry about the length.
I'm sure nobody is really going to mind unless it's some huge wall of text.

Besides, something like slimming down a picture can be done with the [ img height= ] [/img] code, so you'll only need to spoil it if you're posting huge pictures or if it's best viewed from a huge size.[footnote]Thank you, Scotth266[/footnote]
