http://www.polygon.com/2016/10/3/13156336/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-remastered-needs-infinite-warfare-disc

Activision has recently announced that in order to play Modern Warfare Remastered not only you would have to drop at least $80 on Infinite Warfare bundle, but it requires the disc of the IF. The whole internet is going crazy with the angry comments and pre-order cancellation (No idea why would they pre-order it in the first place).

What do you guys think of this whole situation? Do you think Activision should release MWR separately, as fans have been asking for? Would you buy the standalone version, and at what price range?

Console games require their discs to play. Unless MWR comes in a different disc or has to be downloaded, then the complains sound borderline ridiculous.
Notably, Modern Warfare Remastered must be downloaded fully from PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 4's physical version of the Infinite Warfare special editions.
Ok, their complains seem less ridiculous now.

Didn't read the article but how is this much different than something like Metal Gear/2 needing the Subsistence or Legacy Collection disc to play? Those games could fit on a single bloody SNES cart together but it still needs the disc AFAIK.

Don't see what the fuss is about.

The primary argument I've seen against this is that people can't return the disc and still have access to the remaster. That's the way things are with everything else, I don't see why this should be different.

The issue people are having is Activision bundling a remastered version of what is arguably one of the most iconic and game-changing titles of the past decade with the next tired Call of Duty: Another One. It?s all about the money; you?re getting a date with a hottie, but her ugly sister has chaperone AND she?ll be sitting at the table with you.

Oh I totally understand that part of it. I would definitely buy the remaster if it was standalone - I'm still on the fence about it as it stands though.

I was talking more about the issue at hand, with the remaster needing the IW disc to play despite it being a download. The fact that we need to buy IW in order to have access to the remaster is old news.

I'm mean that they're bundling it so tightly with IW. I think people were expecting to buy IW for a download code for CoD4 (meh in and of itself,) but now they HAVE to have the IW disc in to play it? My guess is Activision feared that everyone would only buy IW to get the code for CoD4 then trade IW in.

Yeah isn't a totally unfounded fear given the reaction to the announcement.

I don't normally defend Activision, but in this case I don't think they've done much wrong.

...aside from being in that situation because of their own actions? Their overreaction caused by the public's overreaction to their initial action. It's not really much to justify them. It's like saying "it was self defence" if somebody attacks you...because you shot at them without provocation.

Yeah pretty much.

It wasn't the smartest move initially - and it could be that this is the straw that broke the camels back, but taken in isolation the response from some seems a little over the top.

You have to spend at least 80 dollars to get Modern war fare 4. It doesn't come with the standard version. How much did did the metal gear games cost

I think its a hilarious way to stick it to the bi-polar gaming community.

All the usual talk about how samey CoD is, and nothing new is ever done, etc etc etc... and now people are having a huge cry because they don't want the new game, they just want a graphically updated version of the old game. And to make it worse that evil studio anticipated people buying the game, consuming a digital code for the remaster, then getting their money back (or most of it). Those pure evil bastards! Being one step ahead of the community who essentially wanted to get the game for free! Boo hoo.

Probably $50, but the old MG add-ons were a fraction of the value of a modern (Warfare...zing!) HD remaster, so you basically got them for free. Chances are they'll release it separately later on anyways. What I don't understand is how people think this new MW is so much worse than the first. It's been the same damn game for the last 9 years, but now with an accumulation of extra game modes.

People don't see any value in Infinite Warfare.

psssh yeah right "canceled pre-orders" bullshit, it's the vocal minority getting their knickers in a twist.

How dare activision want to make sure you don't just buy their title for the freebee game and then flood the re-sell market with the name game they just made. Jesus, they shouldn't of even re-made modern warefare.

Ya know what? Ima say the word. Ima say the word I never say. Entitled. Yes, ENTITLED GAMERS. Thats what this is.

80 dollars for two video games is a damn decent deal.

Please don't bring back the E-word. We had a nice couple of years of it not being mentioned.

I've said it DoPo! The cat is out of the bag now, and you know what else it is? Ya know what else?

Priveleged. ENTITLEMENT AND PRIVILEGED GAMERS COMPLAINING! :p

Nah but seriously I do feel it's a really petty thing to complain about.
