Thanks for the advice.DreamKing said:A small tip, write down everything that has to do with abilities. The game comes to a screeching halt if you have to look through the character creation book. A small notebook to keep track of items and gold is a good idea too.
Individual experience is going to vary widely based on yourself, game system and the people you are playing with. You're best bet is simply to come prepared, know the rules, give some thought to your character and simply have fun and go with the flow of the group. As some people of mentioned, come prepared - you'll need dice, pencils and scratch and/or grid paper. You'll want to try to familiarize yourself with the game system as much as possible, you mentioned 3.5 which is freely available under Open Gaming Licence, d20 SRD [http://www.d20srd.org/] is a good resource. I'd also recommend giving some serious thought to your character, a fully realized character doesn't even need an alignment because their decisions will make sense with regards to their characterization. Check out The Compleat Guide to Character Creation [http://www.pbem2.com/compleat.php], on how to start fleshing out your character. And last simply have some fun and get a feel for the group. At the end of the day the game is about having a good time with a group of friends, an established group will be able to quickly get you up to speed, but they might also be quite set in their ways. So ease into it for a session or two.Beowulf DW said:So I'm wondering what to expect. What are your expierences, my fellow Escapists? Any advice would welcome, too.
Being able to laugh with the other guys won't be a problem at all. I've known most of them for a while now, and my friend Ryan is in the group. He's just one of those guys who makes it impossible to be bored. His character is a cleric whose name is spelled wierd, but is pronounced "Fol-hol-gwa-gauts," or something like that. While we were still fine-tuning our characters to be, he started saying that we should get a galley, 'cause that would somehow be cool. When he realized how expensive a galley is, he decided to get an oar instead. I thought that he wanted to use the oar has a weapon. "No," he said, "I'm going to hold it between my legs and ride around on it."Cameron Baxter said:I have and do play quite a bit trouble is you have to be able to have a laugh with the guys in the group else things dont work and it usually gets a bit unfun but thats just my opinion
