So conflicted about Kingdom Hearts. Does BBS add to the convolution?

I used to LOVE Kingdom Hearts. The first one was amazing and the second one was great (in spite of the stupid fanficky second world visits) but all these spinoffs just...turn me way the hell off. The only one I was somewhat okay with was Chain of Memories, but only because something had to explain why *SPOILER* not all of Organization XIII was in KH2. *ENDSPOILER*

But otherwise, it just got so convoluted. Heartless were enough, then they added Nobodies. Okay, sure. But now there's the Unversed in BBS, and Ventus' identical looks to Roxas. That, to my ignorant mind, just reeks of more stupid plot threads that probably could have been avoided.

I REALLY wanna give this series a shot again, because I wanna know why people still think this is one of Square's best things when it's been so overcomplicated over the years.

Is Birth By Sleep a good addendum to the story? Can it make a fan out of me if I let it? Or does it just add to the complication?

Well, I kinda gave up on the story a bit about halfway through KHII. Not "What is this shit? Screw you story" giving up, just accepted whatever it threw out.

Birth by Sleep will only make it worse if you're trying to understand the story, or it did for me at least. All it clears up is why
Kairi and Riku can use Keblades
and then throws in 50 other confusing plot things. But I haven't completely finished it yet, so it might make more sense by the very end.
But if it's just gameplay your after, birth by Sleep's more of what we love. Was annoyed that the MP bar was replaced with the little scrolly-command-list doo-dad, but as soon as you get over that it's simply Kingdom Hearts on the go.

It does answer a lot of questions, but it raises so many more that I might as well not bother. To be honest I thoroughly enjoyed the game. The gameplay is some of the best the series has to offer and the story has some lovely moments in all it's convolutedness. And plus Leonard Nimoy makes a badass villain.

Ok, I'm curious about BBS too, I want to get a PSP just to play it, but first, and foremost, Chain of Memories was released BEFORE KDH2, so KDH2 was mopping up CoM's introduction to the Organization, not the other way around.
That's my bad. What was running through my mind was that since the main series has been on the PS2, all other spinoffs were just there to explain something you probably didn't understand in the PS2 games. But you're right, my bad. A minor oversight.

Simple enough... get it! Some games have sequels/prequels just for the sake of making a quick profit. But you can really see that the Kingdom Hearst team has been planning the overall storyline and how each game ties in with the overall storyline, and this one is no different.

If you enjoyed any of the previous Kingdom Hearts games and have the spare money, go for it.

I know a lot of people are going to say "it adds well to the story" or somthing,
all I can say is "Aqua+Blade Charge+Vanitus fight=Noble needs to change his panties from awesomeness" XD
its a good game, its got a few little additives to combat without fucking with the system so bad that they screw it up(like most games Enix has done*cough*everyfinalfantasypast8*cough*)
I liked the abilities system too, it wasnt as constrictive as chain of memories(whre you had to sacrifice all of your levels to cp in order to get a HALF decent deck) but it wasnt as free as KH2(where you could basically equip every ability as soon as you got it) and it wasnt as broken as 358/2 days(where magic was necicary, but fuggin impossible to use regularly)
it forces you to choose what your attack pattern will be, and you just kind of fiddle with that untill you find a battle plan thats right for you
if you igore all the other games to hype it up(like most people do with Halo) then its more then worth the munny[/bad pun]
