I had a thought the other day, and it was after seeing and advert for those "worlds most haunted" programs.

We seem to be pre-programmed to be afriad of them, but seriuosly what they going to do to you. Go "boo!", make ugly faces, nothing more than most of us have seen in ever some of the most goreist of movies and games.

And poltergiest....they gonna throw shit at you....so you get clouted by flying piece of furniture, not like you gonna died from getting knocked in the back of the head by a flying tea-cosy now is it. Maybe and ashtray......

if you think about it, we have nothing to be afraid of, but they may be annoying. :)

Oh yes, a gentle table being thrown to the face isn't going to hurt at all, just a wee annoyance.

I don't beleive in them, I'm not in denial, just being rational.

Of course you have nothing to be afraid of. That poltergeist's just gonna chuck the sofa at your face. Only a minor annoyance.

There have been stories of people being killed by ghosts, though obviously I can't say how true they are.

But yeah, ghosts can kill you if they want to.

But it's scary though isn't it. If you hear someone walking about, doors slamming and things flying off shelves, then you aren't gonna think "oh it's just a ghost so it can't hurt me".

Think about it, we know nothing of what awaits us when we die, it could be nothing or we could be ghosts or something. Therefore it is illogical to say that they cannot hurt us, when we don't have any evidence that they can't hurt us.

There are all those stories of people suffering with violent poltergiests in their houses. Sure, we can say that ghosts aren't real, but to that person they most certainly are. Especially when they are getting hit with objects.

People are afraid of ghosts because they are and represent death. It's not the scary faces, it's the fact that we end and we're confronted with that. It's all the memories, all the emotions that are left behind. Also, add to the fact that we can't control ghosts. People don't like things that can't be analyzed or explained properly. And no, those ghost hunter shows don't count as analyzing.

I thought I'd point out something:

Odds of very unusual accidents:

* 1 in 48 million ? Being burned alive whilst you sleep.
* 1 in 30 million ? Being murdered.
* 1 in 120 million - Choking to death.
* 1 in 20 billion ? Death by tea cosy.
* 1 in 257,000 - Dying today.

OT: If you believe in ghosts, then the psychological implications and stress alone might get to you. Either way, the supernatural doesn't have to get physical to harm you and even if it did, surely, a flying knife to the face will seriously ruin your day.

They attack like it was friggin' gravity gun time.
Having an explosive barrel tossed in your face (oh yeah, I have some of thenm around here) is not very pleasent.
Then again, I'm not scared of ghosts. They're scared of me.

I thought of the same thing. WHile i don't belive in ghosts, i wonder why the people who do are so afraid of them... honestly, why should they be any worse than living people?
Can they even assault you?
Why would they?
Does dying and having your spirit lingering around automaticly make you evil?

Shit i wanna meet ghosts, imagine the pranks you could pull if you worked togeather.

Oh and a poltergeist on your team would totally PWN in any ball game.

Yeah that, more than anything else. It's not the fact that they might hurt you (some will, some won't, it honestly just depends on who it was that died and why they're sticking around). It's just the human fear of death. Some may even argue that ghosts only even "exist" because of this fear being at the back of our minds, that our fear created the things.

Yeah especially if they're poltergiests or demonics.

Where's your proof?
There indeed is no proof that ghosts don't exist, but there is also no proof that invisible strawberry monsters don't exist. Considering there are plenty of alternate and physically plausible explanations for every ghost report and no actual proof at all I don't see any reason to start believing in them.

Ghost stories are freaky, as are the photographical "proof" pictures

Most Haunted programmes, however, suck harder than a rift in gravity. They hype themselves up, stand in an old building and yelp when the cameraman accidently sneezes, and full-out scream when one of them trips, citing "malicious paranormal intent" rather than "look out for the step, you dozy cow"

Then they mess around with a Spirit Medium and this apparantly sorts it out. Then they come back a few months later and everyone's fine
