When I grew up, the friends I had were mostly all-purpose nerds: We played tabletop games, painted miniatures, watched scifi and played video games.

It wasn't until later I realized that most people aren't like that.

So how many "nerd" things do you engage in other than video games?

Tabletop RPGs?

Miniatures games?

Board games?

Collectible card games?

Scifi media? (books, movies, shows)

Any other stuff I am missing?

I'm sure you're missing many things, like anime, cosplay, LARPing, etc. Outside of gaming, I'm into sci-fi, CCGs, anime, and I really like math. I use it for my major, sure, but I like it when it isn't being a pain in the ass too.

I love boardgames, tabletop RPG's (although I almsot never actually play them...) programming, sci-fi, science, history etc. There are so much stuff to entertain and learn, how can you not be a nerd? :)

While I think that's absolutely true, I think OP is referring to archetypal/stereotypical nerd enthusiasms.

Hmmm I don't know. Whether something is a "nerd thing" seem to change depending where you are/who are talking to and a lot of the time it's more the degree you are into those things.

Comics are are still very much a nerd thing so I guess I get a nerd point for that. Maybe half a point because it generally not the classic superhero ones (though I do read some) which is what most people think of with comic book nerd and I'm not massively into them. I just pick them up when I see something that looks interesting.

Sci-fi (and fantasy) media isn't really a nerd thing. Most people like it. It's only a nerd thing if you are REALLY into it and do things like learn fantasy languages and cosplay.

I read a lot and I like art and often would rather be doing that on my own rather than talking to people (even when I like them) which gets me called a nerd sometimes. I study some stuff for no reason other than personal enjoyment though that's hardly uncommon. I did talk about parasites because it came up in one of the lectures the other day so those people probably think I'm fucking weird now but I don't care.

I had some collectable card games when I was a kid. I don't have any at the moment. I would go get some just because I like the art on some of them though I wouldn't have anyone to play them with. It's one of those things I'm kinda interested in and don't see around that often and if I have money to blow on hobbies it's going to go into other things first.

I would get miniatures but lack of space, funds (they are ridiculously expensive to get into from what I've seen), time and no one to play with.

I have never played a Tabletop RPG but I have nothing against the concept and would probably have fun with it if I ever did play one but again. don't know anyone playing them (common theme here).

Rhe only time I play board games is at my cousins house when we are bored (their Mormon, oh the stereotypes).

Full out LARPing is where it gets a little too much for me. I would be too embarrassed and awkward to do that and I admit I find it a little bit strange when people treat it seriously.

I read a quite a bit and pretty much 99% of it is Sci Fi and Fantasy, to the extent that I own several hundred books (my shelves look like someone copy/pasted the SciFi/Fantasy section of my local bookstore), accumulated slowly over the years.

I've been gaming since I was 6 (and as I'm almost 30, that's pretty much my entire life) and have been a hardcore gamer for all that time, only slowing down in the last several years, as the demands of work and other obligations have been cutting into my free time. I still put in at least 5-10 hours a week, though I've gotten picky about what I play.

Most of the shows I watch are Sci Fi or Fantasy to some extent or another and also go on an anime spree for a couple of months every few years (currently in the middle of one).

I did some tabletop gaming in high school, but never managed to fall in with people who'd be willing to do that more frequently.

I don't go to conventions, mostly because I live in small, shitty European country with no major cons and not enough money to finance trips to cons outside my country. I don't do cosplay because I lack any artistic talent. I don't LARP because even I draw the line somewhere.

And comic books.

OT: In the last two years or so I've started watching anime, reading comics and manga, building up a collection of largely fantasy and sci-fi literature, and started purchasing packs for the card game Android: Netrunner, as well as occasionally playing other board/card games my friend has bought like Legendary or Talisman.

I'd like to do "tabletop" roleplaying, but that hinges on having a group of people to play with. Things like Warhammer will always get nothing more than a hearty laugh from me though; I value my money too much to dive down that rabbit hole, and it's being sucked up by all of my current interests far more than I'd like anyway.

I'm more of an English nerd than the technical kind, though. I was really good at math back in school, but sciences were always over my head, programming languages are beyond my reckoning, and my hands aren't steady enough for me to comfortably dig around the insides of PCs or anything. Basically, I'd be far more likely to write the story for a game than the actual game itself.

ermm Definitely nowhere near "nerdy" as quite a few people on here, but I do love many of the things that are considered nerdy.

I love anime, I find it weird but so enjoyable at the same time, I haven't watched a TON of different series, but off the top of my head I've finished probably 12-13 different anime series total and I have about 6-7 I'm currently watching.

I have hundreds of video games, so there's that. I have 5-6 more obscure/elite/foreign board games that many don't consider "typical" or "casual", typically only nerds have heard of or played them.

I'm not so much into reading comics themselves (I find them a bit too slow paced and with cartoons and movies I find them a bit boring to look at.) but I do love reading about the lore and all the info about them (typically in pedia websites and such that summarize them nicely into a continuous story format)

Growing up I LOVED pokemon and yu-gi-oh cards, I had oh 4 or so of the yu-gi-oh video games and played them to death and had the pokemon TCG for the original gameboy, that thing was a ton of fun as well, but as of lately I haven't cared much for card games beyond hearthstone and that's because it's easy to hop on and off of it.

I used to have ~10ish gundam models growing up and probably 6-7 ZOID models (nothing too expensive, just those plastic part kits where you put em together n stuff and don't need to do much if any painting at all.) but I didn't like spending the money on it so I've stopped doing that, still think they are cool though.

Board games, cosplay, comics, and the occasional sci-fi show/movie.

One thing that sets me apart from my nerd friends is my complete and total apathy towards anime. I'm not super into fantasy settings either.

I play D&D, read VNs and I love physics and math, although the relationship is currently in a crisis and I'm gonna break up.
Still love physics, but... the sacrifices that have to be made to become a scientist are just too many and I'm sick of university for now.

I basically read only fantasy and historical fiction books. I am generally a history nerd which is why my favourite games are grand strategy in other the traditional sense (EUIII) or 4X sense (Civilization IV). Most "nerd things" on your list don't fit in with my interests so much like tabletop games or miniatures because I generally find them too competitive and I like to explore a world much more than win. For example, when playing WoW I never cared about raiding, and I read a lot of the lore and all of the text because THAT was the game for me. Similarly, I like reading about the lore behind Magic and Warhammer (even if the lore is weak as hell) far more than playing the games.

I "specialize" in being a Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon historian, specifically in the shows they viewed over the years... Sure, there are certain years that I rather forget and certain events that make me either go "what the fuck were they thinking" or "why aren't they doing that [shit] again", but I love it like it has real relevance in my life...

Other than that, anime dubs of the various English kind as well as keeping up with the latest hentai releases, I guess... (That last one I can honestly say I do for the "cliche" story-telling...)

I can't think of anything else right now...

If we're talking about sterotypical nerd stuff, then videogames and electronics are the only two I really partake in.

I only own 3 gaming posters (one of which I made myself) and 1 piece of gaming related merchandise, which is a far cry from what I've seen/heard many people own.

Outside gaming, I love anime, manga, comic books, Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Fantasy/Scifi novels, and roleplaying. I'm not lying on my profile info when I say "Generic nerd stuff".

Anime, manga, gaming, tabletop RPGs and sci-fi or fantasy novels. Oh, and I'm a software engineering student that loves to drool over hardware and how to program for it. But I do everything in moderation. I play guitar as my main hobby now, and a lot of my time and money goes into that. I mean, I can't justify a $250 AMD GPU but I can justify a new Peavey 6505+ 60w combo for $600 because that shit will always sound incredible.

So yeah, I'm a nerd but I have interests outside of it :p

Yeah i'm into anime and Visual Novels alongside gaming. I find that people who dismiss anime and VNs as "too weird" are missing the point entirely, fact is the word "weird" is almost synonymous with the word "interesting" as far as i'm concerned. Weird is rarely boring in other words.

I am doing a computing and programming course right now too so that counts I guess, though the whole programming thing goes right over my head a bit right now.

I like Sci-fi, play Warhammer 40k (not as well as I paint the little buggers - which is really damn well), League Of Legends, which is pretty firmly in the 'core' (which could also mean 'nerdy') part of the hobby... Prefer hentai to 'real' porn. That's about it.

Oh, lots of things, such as:

Video games, sci-fi & fantasy, internet media (web series, podcasts, let's plays, memes, blogs, etc.), learning SCIENCE!, comic books, historical weaponry (swords, knives, big sticks, etc.), children's cartoons, and the occasional spot of anime to top it all off. Most of this is just stuff that I grew up with as a kid and never really grew out of. Well, except for the internet; I didn't have internet access growing up, so that particular addiction didn't come about until I was thirteen.

Also, while I don't really play tabletop games myself, I did make a sci-fi strategy board game as my final project for the last year of my high school graphic design class. It's called Terra Siege; it's about humans and four different alien races (who are all fairly blatant expies of aliens from other works, namely the Vortigaunts and Combine Advisors from Half-Life, the Furons from Destroy All Humans!, and a generic insectile race) all battling for control of the solar system. I'm quite proud of it.
