.. and he says that it might need some tuning up.

More to the point, I traded 125$ in Best Buy gift cards for his white XBawks 360, which came with standard AV jacks and a free "Intercooler" system. He states that the disc drive has recently been having some troubles opening, but other than that states it has been operating fine.

Also, to the point, I trust this man like a brother, and I believe him wholeheartedly.

Now, My question is this. I know I need to do some cleaning- His mother and stepdad smoke- but I am wondering if there is anything else that should be done. I was thinking of taking it to a CD Tradepost or Gamers or whatever to see if any repairs could (or should) be done, but I don't know if it is worth it.

Also, I am looking into modding the Bawks, and I am looking for osme pointers as to it's operation. I do not have a users manual, you see, and I am rather desperate for information.

$125 is definitly way to much for a used slightly disfuntional original xbox 360.

Based on the post and title I've got the mental image of a catdboard box poorly painted white with the words XBawks!1!! scrawled on the side in crayon and a scissor cut slot in the top for inserting disks. I trust this man like a brother, and he said it was the real thing!

Anyway, I'm not sure what maintenance could be done outside of giving it a good cleaning and maybe using an electronics vacuum to ensure the vents are clear.

Finally, a post that sounds somewhat decent.

Anything about a tune-up? What do you think of that?

Oh, and FYI, the "modding" part of this is to help prevent a possible RRoD, but fixing the lack of CPU gel and replacing one if needed.

if it RRODs and MS won't fix it, THEN go for modding. it's a pretty simple procedure, opening it up is the hard part. After that it's a matter of replacing the XClamps with decent clamps and resetting the CPU (which requires cleaning off the old thermal paste and putting some new on). There are plenty of guides online for specifics.

Don't, I repeat, DO NOT, do this until AFTER it RRoDs and only if MS says they won't fix it cause it7s out of warranty (which is like 3 years, but yea).

You're better off selling this one and getting a new one. They don't cost that much anymore and newer consoles rarely RROD. I imagine the costs of repairs would come close to the cost of a new system. Also, any type of console modification breaks the Code of Conduct, and if found out you will get banned.

uhh idk if shelling out $125 in Best Buy gift cards was what I'd do (honestly, the price for cleaning/repairs may cause the cost of the system to be about the price of a new Xbox 360 regular)
I wouldn't mod or else you'll most likely just get banned from Live

edit: yeah the others posting on here have said it much better and clearer than I did haha (see above comment)

I'm really not sure what would even be done in a tune up. If your Xbox is the older type that's susceptible to problems, no tune up is going to fix that as it's more of a hardware configuration thing. Personally, I look at those "tune-up" services as rip-offs. Granted, I've never seen one done or anything but I wouldn't be shocked if all they did for your money was crack the case and clean it out with, once again, a plain old mini electronics vacuum.
