And I played this on PC mind you, because since this game is in First Person, might aswell.

Now straight up I will say this, This is the most "Next-Gen" game I have ever played yet. And I played this game with most of the HUD elements off to make it full simluation.

The graphics in this game fuckin blew me away and just the overall look, this game has the look as if its a cinematic cutscene, but you are actually controling the character. I just can't get over how amazing these graphics and visuals look and I have seen plenty of good looking games, but RE7 is a milestone for me, like did David Cage handled the graphics and human models here?

Ok enough talking about Graphics, what about gameplay and story considered I am Resident Evil fan #1 in these parts.

Gameplay wise, yep this is pretty much Resident Evil Classic Survival Horror, but now in First Person and less zombies, the same exploration and survival elements the series used to be known for prior to RE4. Infect this is sort of a spiritual "REMAKE" to Resident Evil 1. The Baker's house is pretty much the Mansion from RE 1 and then some. And though I still miss the Fixed Camara days, I appluade the game being in First Person rather then Over-the-Shoulder like RE4 (and I kinda hoped RE2 Remake would be First Person too)

Then we go to our antagonists, the Baker family and honsetly I have mixed feelings about them.

Papa Jack Baker is the most intimidating one yes...while he's in his human form. He's pretty much a Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy.

Mama Marguerite Baker, while having the most annoying voice, has the more spookier mutated form of all the Baker's because its more subtle. The long extended limbs and the "bug hive vagina" is much more freaker than the mass of flesh and eyeballs Papa Baker ends up becoming.

Lucas Baker is pretty much Jigsaw from the Saw series. And of course he's the most "funny" one of the group with his level being a creepy funhouse.

But I feel they are a wasted cast because of the story as is. All I can say is instead of what we got with the plot, the Bakers should have been more like this, you know how Wesker is essentially a superhuman matrix guy late in the franchise, and didn't become a giant mutant blob of flesh? That's pretty much what I hoped the Baker's would be, minus the Matrix-dodge bullets, bullshit of course. I mean when it comes to mutation, Jack could have just turned into something like the Tyrants at least, but no a giant blob of meat and eyes.

But still, this was a good direction to go for the franchise and I am hopeful they stay this course for the forseeable future.

8/10.

So basically it?s the closest we?ll get to a Silent Hills? I skipped the last two main entrances so perhaps this is a good time to return to the series. I like the idea of playing on PC as well since it?s first person and I doubt I?d bother with VR. Plus I usually play with headphones on PC, so I?ll be looking for this on the next Steam sale.

What sucks is that now my interest is piqued, but I?ve still yet to get through The Witcher 3 and The Evil Within on PC, as well as God of War and MGSV on PS4.

Well the steam summer sale is going on right now. Good time to pick up Resident Evil 7 since its just $20 bucks and well worth that. They did such a great job on the game and the atmosphere and everything. It gets a little weak near the end but its still a fantastic game and the only game thats managed to freak me out a bit in over 15 years.

Cool. What's crazy is the RE2 remake is up for pre-purchase and the system requirements are every bit as steep. I might have underestimated how far it seems they're taking it technically. Either that or it'll not be optimized very well.

1. Is Dead Aim any good for what it is?

2. I forgot there were even novels at all? And most of them are just novelizations of the games themselves so why bother reading Resident Evil 2 when you can play it?

3. The First 2 Live Action movies are the best ones, and you don't have Damnation and Vendetta?

Hard to say, because what Dead Aim "is", is a hybrid between third person and first person. As in, you move the character around in third person, but when you go to shoot, the camera goes to first person. Can't move, but the enemies will react differently depending on where you shoot them (e.g. a zombie headshot is far more effective than a body shot). Likewise, for most of the game's weapons you have limited ammo that you have to find, but your pistol ammo is infinite in the sense that you can always stock up on it in save rooms. On the flipside, enemies will always respawn (I think). Also, its story and villain are pretty silly, even by RE standards. You can easily skip Dead Aim and not miss anything, as to my knowledge, none of it is referenced in any other piece of RE lore.

Ultimately, Dead Aim is an attempt at hybridizing the first person gameplay of the first Survivour game with a more RE feel (in that you need to explore and be selective with your ammo). In that regard, it's fine. Nothing spectacular, but fine. However, you're not missing out on that much if you don't play it. It's certainly a better gun game than Survivour 1, but RE4 is a far better example of bridging two styles of gameplay within the RE series.

2. I forgot there were even novels at all? And most of them are just novelizations of the games themselves so why bother reading Resident Evil 2 when you can play it?
By that logic you should never bother with a novelization at all.

But that aside, the RE game novels aren't anything spectacular. They're not congruent with current RE lore anyway, and what original plot points they had were never resolved. Really doesn't help that the RE games aren't suited for novelizations for a plenthora of reasons (few games are). In contrast, the RE movie novelizations are actually quite decent, in terms of writing, and in their fleshing out of the setting/characters. Again, they were made incongruent with the films by the last one (granted, the last one retcons a lot of stuff to even function), but the novels are decent reads. Or at least the first three are. I've read The Final Chapter novelization (it's by a different author), and it doesn't add nearly as much, only bridging the gap between the fifth and sixth films, and unneeded sequel bait.

3. The First 2 Live Action movies are the best ones,
True. I think 3 is at least decent, but by 5 it had completely gone off the rails (never seen 4). 6 is enjoyable in a guilty pleasure sort of way.

and you don't have Damnation and Vendetta?
No.

I'm not that fond of Degeneration. People hold it above the live-action films, but just because it's set in the game continuity, that doesn't automatically elevate it. Ultimately, it's very much a tie-in film, and I've never had any real need to see the next two. After RE5 came out, my interest in RE waned significantly (not because RE5 was bad, I enjoyed it, but it felt like a natural conclusion to the series).

Yeah, RE7 is exceptional. I played it at release and recently played through it again. Upto the ship section I'd say this is the best horror game I've ever played. It really does feel like you're playing an interactive take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but not one of those scripted ones where everything is predetermined. I was actually surprised how the A.I.(espescially Jack's) react to your presence. Graphics indeed look absolutely beautiful with some of the sharpest and realistic animations I've seen in a game(espescially The Family which is almost like, real). People complained about the lack of enemy variety but that is not something I took away from the game. The narrative focus is obviously on the Baker's and having more monsters other than the molded would have distracted from that, diminishing many of the narrative punches(like Jack and the chainsaw fight for example *shivers*). In many ways this felt like a worthy successor to Resident Evil Remake as one of the best horror games of all time with the Baker estate actually being a clever inverse of Spencer mansion [https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-05-06-the-hidden-echoes-of-resident-evil-7s-remixed-house].

When you arrive at the tanker it felt a bit like a step down though it was still good. It's just that the entire 'house' section was so exceptionally phenomenal that most other horror themed games pale in comparison. RE7 is a definite win for the resurgent Capcom!

^^That makes me even more interested in playing it. It sounds like Capcom actually went back to *gasp* giving a damn about what they were creating again.

I threw down for the Gold Edition with the added mission content last night on Steam as it was still basically half price of a normal game. Getting tired of the tedious quest design of both The Witcher 3 (you have me scouring the lands to find somewhere to exchange all these currently worthless currencies, let alone all this humdrum loot, or failing a quest for making the ?wrong? choice or simply because some dude wasn?t where he was supposed to be on the marker, for real...?) and Kingdom Come: Deliverance (you have me picking weeds out of a garden and watching the same damn ?picking? animation dozens of times for a quest, for real...?). I also have Deus Ex: HR Director?s Cut to finish but the constant hacking of doors and computers along with having to deal with cheesy choice-filled cutscenes and derivative stealth sequences through patrolling goons for the last three chapters has put me off there as well.

I?m in the mood for something more focused, immersive and visceral, so hopefully this will be the ticket.

It's really very good. I think it's something of a "game of two halves" insofar as the initial parts around the house felt very different from the second house part and later part on the ship. The characters were great; I think it might have been even better had they had even more characterisation but all in all it was an atmospheric, chilling horror adventure that ticked a lot of the right boxes.

The gunplay I will say felt tacked on. It didn't fully gel with the rest of the game IMO. Like 4 and 5 it was both integral and well considered, with inventory systems, balanced weapons/ammo, etc. It worked fine for the bosses, but the combat otherwise didn't really add much by way of challenge or tension. My favourite segments were the first while the father was looking for you, a little like Alien: Isolation. It had so much tension and atmosphere and genuine fear of an implacable enemy, but as a game it succeeded because it was within my control to progress or fail. I also liked the alternate times on the ship, the back and forth thing is very hard to get right and they nailed it. Both parts served to add atmosphere, progress the story and make clever use of the interesting, well detailed environment.

Ending was a bit lacklustre, but TBH no worse than other B-reel horror stories so while I won't credit the ending, I wouldn't take anything away. I kinda like that there's no Umbrella business also. It's absolutely worth picking up and I also loved the NG+ mode, a returning feature from previous titles.

Well, I think they are going the resident evil 4 route with it. Third person and all, so no resource saving with pre-rendered backgrounds.
