Basically alot of the stuff I criticized prior to playing it still applies, along with new criticism.

But I have praises to say.

This game in terms of freedom is the most open world-y game I have ever played, They were right when they said you can go to the final boss and kill him now at the start.

I just like how fully realized Hyrule looked. The vastness and the sheer draw distance, like you can see the robot dungeons moving from a distance its scary. And alot of moments in this game is scary aswell, when the Blood Moon rises, the Thunderstorms, and those moments of utter darkness. And the GRASS, SO MUCH BEAUTIFUL LOOKING GRASS!!!

I love how Link controls and feels here, and that he can use a whole bunch of weapons and gear, and no gimmicky items like the ones scene in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. And cooking is also a fun thing to do.

Combat is actually challenging...if a bit too much. I mean is it fair that you have a total of twenty hearts and giant monster can chip away ten of it?

But that's all I have to say about the good because really I have alot of bad to say.

Getting this out of the way, the music sucks, mostly at least for there are decent tunes but jeez what a horrible mistake it was to have this constant minimalistic score. This pitiful piano music playing in the background, I mean Shadow of the Colossus did it better.

Then we have the whole theme of this game's Hyrule and I hate it. This stupid pseudo sci fi esque machine that are all over the place, the Divine Beasts, the Robot Guardians, the Towers, the Shrines, I hate the designs and look of these things becaues it just doesn't feel like Zelda to me. And it would not be so bad if it wasn't so recycled constantly. I enjoy the Open World more than being in these places. I mean is it too much to ask to have a Normal Zelda game that looks like Ocarina of Time anymore? And the fact that all the dungeons are the same hurts it more. I get they don't want to do another "Forest Dungeon, Fire Dungeon, and Water Dungeon" but at least they all felt distinct and unique. The Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time is nothing like the one in Twilight Princess.

In regards to the Open World, I am a bit dissapointed of no bigger settlements like cities, I mean I just wish for a place like Clock Town in this game at least. Zora's Domain, and Gerudo Town was fine though.

Then I go to the plot and I have very mixed feelings on this. Its interesting seeing a Zelda game finally voiced, but the performane here is a mixed bag. The King sounds too young and not regal enough, should have used a Shakespearen British Actor to play a King. And Zelda sounds too foppish. But really the biggest issue is not giving Link a voice because seeing these cutscenes and these characters talking to him and him being completely silent is really bad. Especially the ending where Zelda ask if he remembers her, and Link is just standing there staring at her and saying absolutely nothing in response.

And also what the fuck have they done to Ganon in this game? What happened to the Great King of Evil that hailed from the Desert? This Calamity Ganon is stupid, its just some unexplainable force that exists, Yes I know that apperently Ganon just "gave up" and let loose his rage and spirit and became this force because of his constant defeats. But at this point you dehumanize Ganon, whether he's a pig man or the king of the Gerudos, he was a person, a character. The best Ganon we had by far was the one in Wind Waker, because of his persoanlity and history. I feel something when he gave his speech at the climax. Here I feel nothing, just some weird and unexplainable force that exists because its evil.

And last but not least, the Cel-Shading style. And its more than just the fact that its Cel-Shedad. It extends to art style. Like for one most of the common monsters here look too goofy. The Bokoblins, Moblins, Lizafoes, Hinox, Chu-Chus, and Bats. Its says alot that the only thing intimdating in this game is the Lynels. And I just feel this was done to appease the annoying Wind Waker fans that loves Cel Shading so much because "it ages better" dude have you seen Skyward Sword? Link's eyebrows in that game looks so low-res and poorly textured. Again I just want a modern main line Zelda game that looks like Hyrule Warriors, please? There was so much color and detail in that game.

In the end I just feel this game has a solid foundation, but too many problems to make it the best Zelda game ever. Now if the build upon this foundation in the sequel hopefully they succeed.

Keep the open world and overall gameplay, but now do things like add big cities and settlements, and have them all be as alive and lived in as Clock Town from Majora's Masks.

And please make the dungeons, like dungeons place and don't rehash this stupid techy theme please with everyting. I just want my Elemental Themed dungeons again. Heck you can make the major story dungeons radically different, and make the equivilent to shrine dungeons the elemental ones like forest, fire, and water.

And please make Ganon a person this time. And have Link talk.

So, with all that said, how would you score it out of 10? Would you play it again? Where would you rank it alongside other Zeldas? Is it worth buying a Switch for? Do you think the next Zelda will be in a similar format?

7 out of 10.

I would only play it to see if I can beat Ganon as soon as I get the Glider.

Its definately up there, but still Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda in terms of overall package.

I have this on the Wii-U if anything wait till Metroid Prime 4 and Smash Bros Switch to reveal itself to decide getting the Switch for.

I hope so and I hope they expand upon the formula, like I said, I want big major settlements like Clock Town where each inhabitant has a story driven quest to them if thats too ambitous than relegate it to Hyrule Castle Town/City have that place be the most developed settlement yet. I want Ganon to come back as a person, and can we please end the game at his own Castle than Hyrule Castle? I miss Ganon's Castle. And please just have a traditional Zelda setting, enough with gimmicky themes like the Sky in Skyward Sword, and this robotic bullshit here. I just want Hyrule as is and the Dungeons normal Zelda themed dungeons. And please have the Art Style and Graphics of Ocarina of Time thank you.

Although I'd certainly rank BotW more highly than you have, I'd overall agree with the main criticism here.

The open world was incredibly enjoyable, varied, immersive, and freeing to play around in. It was brilliant. But I did sorely miss the traditional dungeons, and it is indeed a negative point that the shrines (and Divine Beast interiors) looked very much the same, and had little variety.

The outside, the open world, was this game's strongest point, and it was a very strong point. The shrine/ Divine Beast interior design was its weakest.

It's an 8/10 game for me (which means I loved it, by the way; very few would earn a 9).

actually with some receipe you can have a maximum of 30 hearts.

the cell-shading in this one bother me less than in wind waker. yeah it's still cell-shading, but way less cartoony.

True that ganon was disapointing in that game, but i liked the shrines. Even if dongeons are really fun in the others zelda games, it was a nice change of the simple do dongeon 1 to get thing A, that will be needed to get to dongeon 2, to get thing B, etc... maybe the beast dongeons could have been a bit longer...

what i like the most in this game was the exploration actually. the fact that you can virtually go anywhere on the map. The funny thing, is that the next open world title i played after Zelda was Skyrim, and i was so used to look at the map, plan a route and just go in straight line, that i was very frustrated by the inclimbability of mountains in Skyrim...

I'm happy other people are able to enjoy the game more than I have.

I LIKE the game, but I'm not in love with it.

I get bored playing anything more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. It's open world I think is severely overrated. Yeah, it looks nice sometimes, but it's as empty as any other open world game I've ever played. It's big. And I understand it's difficult to fill all that space with things to do without being overwhelming to the player, but as a result, I don't think it's world is any better than anything else out there.

While I broadly speaking agree with most of the criticisms above, and am probably even more negative about the story than you are, it all didn't really matter to me. The exploration and the world was so well done that it basically superseded all other considerations for me. It also helps that I was never the biggest Zelda fan. I never really liked the dungeons that much so having only four big (well, more like medium) ones and having the rest be free-roaming was fine for me.

The main theme of the game was being in a massive wilderness where society has been decimated generations ago. Melodramatic music and cities could have clashed with that. The music could have been a bit more but not too much. Having a larger city could have been interesting but it didn't really fit. On Zora's domain I wasn't nearly as positive though. It felt like a very fakelooking and uninteresting place.

I just realized how epic the final level/dungeon's music actually is:

If only the rest of the game has music as epic as this.

Just finished it now, and...It's pretty great. I can't shake the feeling that something is missing (I guess it's the lack of full proper dungeons providing challenge spikes?), though...

The food mechanic felt a little undercooked, too (pun entirely intended). Like...I almost never bothered making fancy recipes, as "Stick 3-5 hearty foods in a pot" or "Stick 5 of an item that gives me a bonus I want" was more than enough for basically the entire game. I feel like I missed something...But just doing that gave me easy, reliable results.

Final boss was great....But I really feel like one more prolonged straight fight would have been nice. I went in with a huge stack of Hearty Food and I basically wrecked his face in minutes, and ended up feeling a little over-prepared. XD

It's definitely fun and I think I might wanna replay it in a year or two (on master mode), but...Really I can't shake this feeling of something missing.

I don't give number scores, but since someone here demanded one...Ehhh...I'll give it an 8. It was a great game.

PS: The durability mechanic was only a pain in the ass at the start. Once you start finding good stuff regularly and have more carrying capacity, you're going to have too many weapons to know what to use! This would be easily remedied by having shops actually sell weapons, or having slightly larger carrying capacity at the start, I feel.

I felt like there was a lot missing my first time playing it through on launch. I only ended up putting in around 35 hours, and left feeling kinda meh on parts of it. But then I bought the DLC a few weeks ago and went back into the game wanting to do stuff I barely felt like touching the first time, this time on Master Mode. Now, as of today, I'm 35 hours into the game like before, and I'm only now feeling like going through my FIRST Divine Beast, Vah Ruta. I don't know why, maybe this wasn't the kind of Zelda experience I was up for last year, but I'm having a TON of fun just dicking around a bunch on my second play through. Putting my entire 1st play through's run time into simply exploring without a single Divine Beast liberated is crazy. I even have the Master Sword already!

Not to mention I haven't even touched the DLC content yet either, so I have the Trial of the Sword, and then the entire new content after beating the game. I'm amazed at how much I ignored the first time around, so many little things I missed and didn't experience. The game is way better than I thought. Master Mode gives it an extra challenge that's just what the game needed too.

Maybe your next play through on Master Mode in a year or two will help you figure out what was missing! I know it did for me at least
