Which is pretty fucked up because I've got a track record of winning jack-shit. It got so bad my grandmother wouldn't let me help her with her scratch tickets when I was 13.

So, I've got two questions on this thing, as I plan on keeping it...

A. I hear physical GBA cartridges are incompatible. Which is a problem because I want Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. (It's also a understanding that FFTA == FFT for the PSx. Sweet fuck, correct me if I'm wrong.) Is the game available in the online store?

If I were to say, procure an Ace Kard with FFTA on it would the machine be capable of running it? Mind you, I'd prefer to find it in the online store.

B. There's one game I really want, and that's World Ends With You. I'm pretty sure I found it in the bargain bin somewhere. Because I got rather close to the end, and had to return the unit to it's rightful owner. With that said, my roomies also have a fat stack of pokemon games... Other than the games mentioned in this post... What games are worthwhile? Easy to control? What games did you really enjoy on this system?

Thankfully, I do live near a store which liked to put out older games for ungodly cheap. Weird, random games too. Hell, we found Phantom Crash for the Gen1Xbox. ^.^ So, no matter how obscure the game might be, odds are, I'll find it, baby.

Thanks for your help!!

A. Yes, there is no slot at all for physical GBA cartridges. Sorry.

B. If you're just looking for DS games for your 3DS, then I agree that you should get The World Ends With You if you can. If you ever intend to make use of the circle pad or the 3D functions, then Kid Icarus: Uprising is pretty good once you get used to the ground controls. It should only take a couple of missions.

You can find DS Lites cheap if you want a DS that can play GBA games. I don't know how much actual Gameboy Advances go for these days. But I bought a DS Lite about two years ago for $50, and the 3DS wasn't even out then. I'm guessing you can find it even cheaper today.

Do not get Kid Icarus -_- it put me off my 3DS. It's alright for about 10 minutes, then the repetition really gets to you.

OR just don't play the games with the 3D on since the 3D doesn't add anything but the games are good on their own merit both in terms of gameplay and overall, 2D/standard visuals.

---

As everyone else has said about this:

A - No GBA slot and FFTA isn't on the E-Shop...yet...maybe someday but not right now. The 3DS E-Shop is mostly Game Boy games with a sprinkling of Game Gear, Game Boy Color and, NES.

B - The only DS games you can't play on the 3DS are imported ones so you should be good with any older DS games you may have missed. Barnyard Blast is great if you like old-school, side-scrolling, KILL EVERYTHING games (looks like Alien Infection is the same type of game only with the Alien brand). As for 3DS games that are worth owning, Samurai Warrior Chronicals (if you can find it for $25 or less), Theatrhythm (if you like rhythm games and Final Fantasy music), someone mentioned Kid Icarus which is a good game but by far has the worst controls of any 3DS game I've played to date. If you end up playing Kid Icarus Uprising, you'll be able to handle Kingdom Hearts 3DS. If you liked the old-school Resident Evil games Revelations is really good as well. Mario Kart 7 is fine if you like that series though it is the most frustrating since the Red Shells have been made very lethal to everyone but you. Other than that there are the 2 high profile N64 remakes that are good if you like the nostalgia and, the Mario games which are polarizing: you either like them and will have them no matter what or you don't and, won't. That's about all I've got.

Funny story: My old DS (original series) was kind of on the blink and the 3DS was out so I figured I'd get it so I could still play my DS games and maybe pickup some new games for it. A year and a half later my old DS is STILL working and I own no 3DS games. So yeah, that was great.

On the topic of games for DS: Lesee here, well, apart from pokemon theres
Mariokart (you probably already know if you like this or not).

Advanced Wars. One of the more decent turn based stategy games around. I have it on good authority that Dual Strike is the best.

Chrono Trigger which is just a remake of the SNES game. Pretty damn good JRPG. I enjoyed it a lot and I don't play a lot of JRPGs.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time which is in the vein of the mario RPG games.

Scribblenauts. good for a laugh, not much else.

Huh, going through these now it occurs to me how few of them I particularly liked.

You will probably look mostly for DS titles, given that the 3D library isn't very large yet.

Some DS titles to be on the lookout for:

- Professor Layton series: Puzzle games set in the 1880-90s (somewhat anachronistic, mind you).

- Mario and Luigi: Bowser´s Inside Story: A rather humourous take on the Mario series, where you play both Bowser, and Mario & Luigi in Bowser´s innards.

- The Ace Attorney series: Adventure games with a lawyer as the protagonist.

- Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure: Real hard hack 'n' slash plaformer, great for a challenge.

- Hotel Dusk: Room 215: Adventure game set in the 1970s America. Real strong story in that one.

Two 3DS titles for you:

- Rayman 3D: Remake of Rayman 2, with superior movement (compared to the PC version at any rate). A platformer.

- Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns (3DS version): Farming simulator. You choose between two rival towns to start a farm in, your choice deciding whenether you will focus on animal or crop farming.

Star Fox 64 is pretty freaking awesome, with or without the 3D. The circle pad is pretty smooth and the gameplay is near perfect (of course).

Mario Kart 7 is fun as well, but doesn't compare in my eyes to the Wii version.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is coming out soon, and Paper Mario 3DS is coming out in a few months, both of which seem pretty fun.

Pokemon, you can never go wrong with that. No 3DS versions yet, though.

Those should tide you over, I'd think. If you like the same games as me, at least.

I tried the 3DS in a store once and I couldn't get it to work right, but it was bolted down to a frame that was bolted to the floor, so it really wasn't movable - I could have been in the wrong position or something, so I'm not going to write the 3D aspect off just yet, but because of that I'm not going to buy it just yet.
Maybe perhaps if more games that I'm interested in come out (more than just OoT) then I will, and/or if the price drops.

I was never really much on Nintendo games, with the exception of the "Secret of" games that came out on the SNES, But I forgot that Chrono Trigger was on the DS. I'll be needing that.

I'm not really sure I could ever really get back into Pokemon anymore though. They added all of these retarded ones and now I can't keep up with the little bastards. Sweet Jesus I feel old.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, guys! I'll certainly look into them. :3

According to work, this thing is earmarked at a $200+ value, if I trade it in, I'll probably only GET the value of a DSlite, which is EOL and discontinued. I'll probably keep the 3D feature disabled, but I'm not going to get rid of it.
EDIT: Sorry Resonance, I'm still getting used to the weird new interface.

Yeah that's fine, the point was that KI:U is not a good game, there are other games that are better.

Don't trade it in!!!

Just get a gameboy advance sp for incredibly cheap, and keep the 3ds to play ds and 3ds games on! You cant play 3ds games on the ds, so don't trade it in. You'll be missing out on awesome games such as kingdom hearts 3d, monster hunter 4 and super mario 3G land if you trade it in. A gameboy advance sp will put you back about 20 pounds, so there's no reason to get an inferior ds lite and lock yourself outmoded some awesome games because that guy up there doesn't like the optional 3G function

I never use the 3D anyway. You do quite fine without it.

Two more recommendations that I forgot about earlier (in case you want some weird stuff):

- Lost in Blue 2: A...survival simulator (that is the best I can come up with) on a desolate island. You hunt, gather and look for ways to get off the island. A bit grindy if you ask me, but I found the grind to be all right. Then again I also finished off the Kanto Pokédex on FireRed, so take that as you will. :p

- Avalon Code: A top view...action-adventure game (very undescriptive, I know) where you have the ability to alter the alchemical make-up of your foes (that was probably not very helpful either) and play a sort of...volley ball game where you try to keep the enemy in the air for as long as possible. The game is a bit hard to describe, as you might see. I don't think I could do it text at any rate.

Here is a Wikipedia article about it:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon_Code

sadly, the GBA cartridges are incompatible with a 3DS. in fact, even the DSi doesn't have the GBA slot, so it was clear they were phasing out GBA compatibility.

have you looked at FFTA2 for DS? the story isn't really involving but the gameplay is quite deep. i've dumped 180 hrs into it and only half finished. i'm sure you can play that on your 3DS.

i didn't really consider buying a 3DS for the same reason (i have an original DS and a bunch of GBA games that i bought for it), but my wife has mentioned buying one her cousin doesn't need (he's in college). games i want for the 3DS: Super Mario 3D Land and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. And the Star Fox 64 remake (damn you Nintendo for not putting it on consoles).

for DS games, i'd also recommend the Final Fantasy 3 and 4 remakes, any of the 3 Castlevania games, and Tetris DS (if you can find it without paying an arm and a leg).

FF Tactics and the FF Tactics Advance series are very different games. If you want the original Tactics game, there's an updated version for the PSP.

Nope. they're different games. FFTA is still really good though.

OT: Most of the games I'd go out of my way to recommend are already on the list except for 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors for the DS. It's a myst-style puzzler/ visual novel with great music, story, and atmosphere. There's also a 3DS sequel that's getting a localized release soon.
