is a happening thing

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/11/mass-effect-4-development-shifted-to-bioware-montreal-using-new-frostbite-engine/

AND being given to a different studio "Bioware Montreal" or somthing ( or BioWare?s new studio in Ubisoft Montreal which I'm guessing is a typo in the article)

well I supose you could say "Bioware" isn't "Bioware" anymore and I can already hear people raging proabably

I don't feel strongly about this because what I cared about (shepard and other charachters) is all said and done...for Mass Effect 4 I'll wait and see...with cautious optimism

I wish they'd do ME4 with a Krogan protagonist. Krogan characters in multiplayer was the best thing about ME3.

"Mrawwww!"

"We are switching over to new directions, on both the gameplay and story fronts." Right...there went my optimism for a new mass effect game. New gameplay directions? Part of what made the trilogy so great was the gameplay. Especially 1 to me, since it was still much more of an rpg rather than a kind of gears of war rip-off with rpg elements.

Going with a different kind of gameplay (wouldn't surprise me if they went for full on 3rd person shooter) is NOT what I want for a new ME game.

to be fair that could mean anything...it could mean new/better Ideas

or knowing EA it could mean first person....COD style...

Going from what 'gameplay changes' have meant in the past, no it will not mean new/better. It will mean pandering to what they consider is the mainstream crowd. As in most likely going full on 3rd person shooter. Just look at the trilogy. The first game was most rpg-like. A real shooter rpg you could say. Then ME2, a lot more 3rd person shooter and a lot less rpg. Then came ME3, which was even a bit more 3rd person shooter where taking cover became essential and where it was far more action orientated. So, logically, the 4th game will be even more shooter-like. Maybe even removing the rpg elements all together under the excuse of 'streamlining' things. (A term that has come to mean 'we're dumbing things down for the CoD/WoW/iOS crowd' almost every time.)

Meh.

It's no secret that I love me some Mass Effect so I'll end up picking it up at some point, but it will probably be later on once the price has dropped way down.

So far as I'm concerned the series I loved has finished and if this new thing wants to impress me it's going to have to do that on its own merits, not because it has "Mass Effect" written on the box. I am not expecting great things

Although now I'm curious as to what the Edmonton studio (the ones behind the first three games) is doing.

Considering that ME1's gameplay was a boring, unbalanced and clunky mess, I hope they steer way clear of it.

The gameplay was not boring...but I guess that has to do with different tastes. For one, they should bring back heat sink instead of stupid ammo. It's hard to really tell if it was unbalanced since all you did was fight npc's. Encounter difficulty was all over the place though. And of course they would have to improve upon the system of ME1. But going the 3rd person shooter way was not what they should have done. They should have kept the nice balance of rpg and shooter from ME1, improved the loot and loot system, and made the combat a bit more action-packed like in ME3.

I'd say I agree here pretty much 100%...I don;t like being overly cyincial, I'm just rather neutral right now

new IP? though I would have thought EA would keep them hammering at the Mass Effect anvil since its the biggest cash cow (or cash anvil) they have

Due to Mass Effect 3...no wait come back. I have no hate to say!

Okay now that you are back...I loved Mass Effect 3 along with the first two. Due to the whole things that went around Mass Effects 3's ending...I have trouble with trusting EA.

...Okay it made my relationship with EA 80% worse.

I will read and listen to Mass Effect 4's news but I won't even think about buying it until I feel like I will enjoy it.

But dear God EA...what did you do!?

All I'm wondering right now is "Who will I be playing?"...it's not Shepard...then who. (And if we could get multiple races would be cool even though I would still be human.)

Looking forward...or not to more news!

Interested to see what they'll do. Given that so much lore has now been established, and given how the third installment ended, I'm not immediately panicking that they've moved it to a different arm of the studio.

Pretty sure they're handling Dragon Age 3 since Edmonton is their main place and where all the big games are handled (besides the Old Republic)

I'd like to see a mass effect where I can really create my own protagonist. Race, backstory, appearance, the whole kit and kaboodle. I want to make a turian or a quarian, and not be a space soldier. I loved mass effect as a whole and I'm excited to see what they do. While I understand the complaints people had, I still enjoyed all three games.

Just... don't bring back vehicles. It's my only wish.
Mako 2.0 should never happen.

Yes, do this! something like Dragon Age where you have various races and classes you can choose for the protagonist and who each has their own beginning level. I'd love to see the galaxy through the eyes of a turian or salarian

Well, sure I'd be interested in it, but it wouldn't be the game itself that would drive me from it. The third game required that Origin thing and online registration and bullshit, and I'm not entirely sure if I want to continue further down that path.

As for the game itself, I think a prequel of sorts would be the way to go. Maybe something that goes down before the Humans became involved in the galactic empire or whatever it's called (been awhile since I've played it, can't remember the names). Playing as a Turian commander could be cool. I just don't see how they can really make a sequel unless they do the cuntish thing of making just one of the endings canon and going on from there, which would suck for a lot of players.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I've played Mass Effect (good story, clunky gameplay) and it was like a breath of fresh air. Now it seems like things are getting stale. Not too mention if they make it heavy on the multiplayer, I'm not going to be interested.

It disturbs me that they're already working on a ME4 so soon after ME3...
It screams of the mistake that was made with KOTOR 2, pushed it out a year after KOTOR and it suffered, alot.

aside from the shityyness of Origin....its the future I'm sad to say we'll have an account, a login for everything

would it actually be any worse?....the ending/s was bad enough that it wouldnt make a difference..in fact it could be a reaally good thing to continue..because then we would know how fucked the universe is/isnt....mabye the game could be about somones attempts to unfuck everything (that would actually be awsome)and if were super duper lucky a hint as to the fate of shepard...hell who says shepard can;t be in it!? like Motoko from ghost in the shell 2..

I'm getting ahead of myself here

Well, I actually enjoyed the endings, so... at least the extended ones. The original endings were just too vague. As for Shephard, we've had three huge games now with him and his crew (or her, I played a male so forgive me) and I don't think we need anymore of those characters now. Besides, there is something to be said about giving your life so others can live, which is what Shephard did to the extreme, bringing his "heroic commander" personality full circle. I think it'd be silly to bring him back.

Meh. I loved the first Mass Effect but the second was a little disappointing for me and sapped any interest I had in the series completely out of me, I never played Mass Effect 3. I honestly couldn't care less if Mass Effect 4 existed or not. If it does happen however, I would appreciate it if they would write a decent ending(s) so that the fans don't throw another tantrum.
