no Im not making a which system is better thread, this is more about my 360 red ringing and being outside of warranty and me not caring enough to spend 100 bucks to fix a design flaw, well I guess fix is the wrong word, more of replace the stupid console with another one that probably has the same stupid flaw and will break down the line again costing me another 100 bucks

there are a few games Ill miss, gears 3, ace combat... something or other, probably mass effect 3 since all my saves are on the 360, possibly saints row 3 since as I understand they did a piss poor job getting the 2nd one to work well on the pc

2nd time my 360 has red ringed, how many 360s has the escapist gone thought?

Actually I only ever had one truly red ring, and it happened 15 minutes after I hooked it up so I immediately returned it.

However Ive had 4 360s now., the first was red ring, second was some short with the connectors where the power plugs in, the third I lost in the separation and I just got my 4th black streamlined model + kinect.

So red ring... ehh, not seeing it. Honestly I would deal with all the tech problems in the world compared to the manufactured problems Sony has right now and nintendo for me is a non issue.

Anuway, sorry to hear it, but just remember, you wont miss them, because you can always go back and play them later on when the 360 gets cheaper or you can find a cheap used one.

I can tell you exactly what's wrong with your 360, and what you can do about it, without sending it out to M$ to have it 'fixed'.

Chances are, the RRoD that you have now is because of a faulty heatsink (had one of these myself) which can be fixed with a kit (google knows where to find it) or taken to a game shop that can repair the thing for you if you haven't got the technical know-how (or desire) to do it yourself.

Another potential RRoD comes from the AV cable not being seated properly. I had this happen too, but it was an easy as hell fix, reseat the cable, problem solved. Disregard this if you're using an HDMI cable.

As far as finding a shop that can and will repair the console, I think the web knows where to find one for you, and failing that, the phone book is a good place to start.

Best of luck.

I heard for that heatsink thing all you need is a bunch of pennies to replace it and you're golden. My friend did something to that effect and he got a whole other year out of what was essentially just the guts of the Xbox.

To date 3. I gave up sending it in for repairs and decided to repair it the "MACE" way.

Both Xbox consoles I've owned have broken for seemingly no reason. My original Xbox (the big huge black box one) broke out of nowhere, and that was the first time this had happened to me, and needless to say I was pissed. My 360 broke last year just when it went out of warranty. Sold whatever remained and haven't looked back. Not buying another one either, it's not worth the hassle for a few good exclusives.

None. I've only had a freezing issue with my Xbox 360 which was solved with a swift smack.

It's been fine ever since, had it for four or five years now.

I suppose I might as well try fixing it since the damn thing is outside warranty, not like I could do more damage to the stupid thing

I've never actually gotten Red Ring. Got the E74 error on my first one, but I was in warranty and got it fixed. It lasted for about two years till the disk drive gave out. I managed to fix that myself by ordering a new one and replacing it. Ever since, its been running fine.

At any rate, there are plenty of ways to fix it yourself. You just need to find out what the problem is. Since you are out of warranty you aren't losing anything by trying, after all. And whatever it may cost, its highly likely its cheaper than sending it in for repairs.

If you get ME3 on pc go to www.masseffectsaves.com. You should be able to find a save thats close enough to your run throughs.

I went through two 360's. One was faulty out of the box, the second was RROD. Never bothered getting another one.

Still on my first Xbox after four years. Had to send my Xbox in to get fixed after the Component/AV port was messed up, and I've had to get the fans replaced in a way that Microsoft probably wouldn't like. It still works though. :DDD

So far it's held up for five-six years. The only issue I've had thus far has been a dirty lens. Although, to be fair, I've been phasing it out for a PS3 for the past two years. The only reason I keep it around is for a few exclusives. I wouldn't have bought a 360 at all if the PS3 was cheaper upon release.

I'm on my 3rd.

The first one red ringed, and Dad decided to crack the thing open to fix it ourselves...long sotry short, WD-40+electronics=bad day. We had it about 2-3 years.

My second one that we bought used red ringed about a year or so after getting it, but the warranty wouldn't work for us because we bought it used and whatnot.

We're on our 3rd one, and so far, no problems at all. We've had this one for about two years or so now.

Well, I'm workin on my 4th at the moment. One RRoD'd, one disk drive is defunct, but the other two work just fine. Although, the new black slim one works like a charm for all the old xbox games I've got as well (my original black brick of an xbox never failed on me).

1. after replacing that one, i got the NEW xbox that i've had no problems with. it was worth it for the wifi, the HUGE hard drive, and the guarantee of no hardware problems (which, after having it over a year, i've noticed there are none)

Had my 360 going on 4 years now. Not a single hardware issue, and anyone that knows me knows that I literally run my systems through hell and back thirty times.

That is actually a completely different red light sign. It has all 4 of the red lights flash rather than 3/4 of the lights being on.
