...And I have NO IDEA what i'm doing with it. It came with an SD card with an OS called Raspbian on it, which I believe is a modified version of Debian. The problem here is that i've never used Linux, and i'm not exactly sure what a Raspberry Pi actually, er.. Does.

Can anyone point me in the direction of useful.. stuff?

A Raspberry Pi is a computer. A very small, not so powerful computer. But, it's got a nice price tag of about $25 to $30 and can be fit into projects such as arcade machines or game emulators.

I would visit the forums at [link]www.raspberrypi.org[/link] for project ideas, user tips, and the like.

several ideas there.

also http://raspberryjam.org.uk/ if your in the uk may be a good idea to attend.

Tell me what you plan to do with it if you get any ideas and how difficult it is to get into. really interested in grabbing one to play with but never wrote a single piece of coding in my life.

There is an Escapist Linux user group that will be able to help you out technically. The original point of the Raspberry Pi was to try and teach youngsters/hobbyists how to program in the Python language, and it's a great device for that. The python website and raspberry pi website will have loads of resources if you want to pursue that route.

Mine is set up with XBMC and connected to my TV as a media player. I control the interface with the XBMC app on my Android.
Works very well and is very effective. Installed Quake 3 on it too.

if you are the sort of person who likes puzzles you will have the potential to love programming and there are some great tutorials out there up to the point where it starts to get complex and professional programmers basically tell you to "fuck off noob"
best tip i can give when learning programming is to take it slowly and make sure you master each lesson before you go onto the next.... i didn't and thats why i suck :(
