Along with about 25-30 of my games, a 500gb hard drive, two controllers, and 400+ hours of save data.
So I've got a while to wait before I get a new PS3 from insurance, so, escapists, any idea what I could do?

Knit?
Seems that as long as you were covered by insurance there's not a lot you can do besides venture forth and experience the photons of the daystar.

Begin planning out an automated burgler prevention system for your house.

I'm talking Home-Alone stuff.

The robbery seems like you were specifically targeted for the video games given the extent to which they cleared it all out. Probably someone you know. Kill your friends. lolololol.

Consider who, how and why it was taken? Was it clearly visible from a window? Was it someone you trust? I'd be security crazy if I were in your position.

I'm sorta in the same boat. My house burned down and I lost my old fat 80GB PS3 (with PS2 compatability and a 500GB harddrive upgrade), 2 controllers, countless hours of save data and 23 games. (Plus all my XBOX/Nintendo/Etc stuff... And the rest of the contents of the house >_>)

*sigh* Thankfully I also get my stuff back via insurance, but it's still a *****, plus the fact that I lost some collectors edition type stuff. Also, the save files. THE SAVE FILES (I had probably 1000+ hours alone on Pokemon and Monster Hunter games -_-)!!! *cries*

Laugh, safe in the knowledge that the burglar is going to have all his details stolen and his bank accounts emptied of cash as soon as he uses the damn thing.

Well, more seriously, I'd say look into security measures for your home, and then pass the time playing the myriad of free games available on the internet and posting on The Escapist. There's always plenty of stuff to pass the time with if you have access to a PC.

Yeah, thanks to all the posters (except maybe "kill all your friends") my house probably has some of the worst security ever, my room is next to a slider door that has no alarm in it, guess this was going to happen at some point. Really need to start getting more security.
As for other hobbies...well, thank god they didn't take my Harry Turtledove books.

Yeh since it just seemed to be your gaming stuff. I'd be going over to friends houses to hang out >.>
Also maybe invest in a security system.

Oh please.

Do you know how hard it is to train wombats? It's goddamn impossible to keep the attention of a marsupial.

My friend I'm here to tell you that Cave Johnson and Aperture Labs have just what your looking for in proper home defense. You'll want to invest in our upcoming combustible lemons as well when those hit the market.

While true, they are mean when you can train them, armor plate them, and give them death ray eyes.

*Side note, I am glad someone got the joke and didn't turn this into a gun vs anti-gun debate. :)

Did you write down the serial number? I hear they can track it.

edit: to kill time you should exercise, train a spider monkey to use razor blades on its feet and tail, and booby trap your house. So if there is a next time you will be ready to make their lives HELL!

Begin by learning how to bake bread. If you know one or two recipes already, learn another. Perhaps some vanilla walnut whole grain. Then go outside and plant some forget-me-nots in your yard.Dedicate them to your lost PS3. Then go on IRC and lurk around until you find a cache of old PSN accounts. Search until you find your own old account, then go hack yourself.
