I come back from a 4-6 month hiatus to find THIS waiting for me as I try to log back in to WoW to finally install WotLK..

"This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy.

Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment.

We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/antigold.html

The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html. Any recurring subscriptions on this account have been suspended to prevent further monetary charges.

For any disputes of this action, please visit the Exploitative Activity FAQ and Contact page here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/exploitfaq

.........Gold Farming!?!?????

I haven't been on in forever, I come back after going cold turkey, and i find this crap in my inbox

The best part of it is this:

"Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment."

Nice....

Yep, it happened to me. I played wow on three occasions, and on the first two never made much headway. The third time, after much goading by friends, I gave it an honest chance and made it within spitting distance of the end game (73). Then my friends dropped out of the game. I resolved I'd press onward to see what the whole "end game" buzz was about (it took me 3 - 4 months to make it that far if I'm not mistaken). A day or so later (it was after spring finals) I took up the game again only to find out that my accout had been locked because of a violation of TOS. Using Blizzards automated means I was unable to determine precisely WHY my account had been banned. I called, and after about two hours, managed to get the whole thing sorted out and was handed the keys to my account again. At that point, the experience had left such a sour taste in my mouth that I went on to play other for a week or so.

When I tried to log back in a week or so later, I found my account had been changed to work off of short duration GTCs and had lapsed as a result. That was the final straw - I never renewed my account and never saw the end game.
