As someone without any Nintendo experience I am keen to find out what all the fuss is about and why they have legions of devoted fans. Can Nintendo fans recommend the best three games you can play on the 3DS, e-shop or cartridges are fine. Old classics it will play as well as the newer platform specific games are great too, two rules though: no Pokemon and no JRPGs.

1. Fire Emblem: Awakening
2. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
3. I haven't played enough of any other 3DS game to recommend it

Fire Emblem is a fantastic tactical RPG that I would recommend to anyone, regardless of their interest in that type of game, and Luigi's Mansion is just loaded with so much charm. I would highly recommend both to anyone with a 3DS.

Fire Emblem will kick your arse but it's a very good game
Mighty Switch Force is a neat puzzle platformer
Umm... The demo for Shifting Worlds is trippy... but I'm not sure it's actually any good

I've only had my 3DS for a month or so so I've mostly played eShop stuff (mostly Picross <.<) between rage-quitting Fire Emblem for a week at a time :p

EDIT: I forgot, I also played through Gunman Clive. Short but very nice Western themed Megaman style platformer with a neat art style.

Fire Emblem Awakening: Do it. Just do it.

Luigi's Mansion 2: Not played it myself yet, but I've heard nothing but awesome things about it, and it's one of the fastest selling games for 3DS, so there doesn't seem much reason to not go for it.

Super Mario 3D Land: Yes, it's another Mario game. But it's also the highest selling 3DS game for a reason. You don't get 3D platformers as tightly designed an put together as this. The first half is a bit simple by normal Mario standards, but the latter half of the game is incredible.

So out of a library of dozens and dozens of games, those two are the only ones worth playing? Not Etrian Odyssey IV? Not Soul Hackers? Not Luigi's Mansion? Because I think most other people would agree that at this point, the 3DS is building up one heck of a kickass library of games.

SM3DL is the highest selling game because it comes bundled with a lot of 3DS packages. Otherwise, it's just another bloody Mario game.

And yes, I'm a PC gamer with a 3DS. The library is stale, with Nintendo relying far too much on their usual first party porridge because once again, the console is an ass to develop for.

1. Tales of the Abyss
2. Theatrythm Final Fantasy
3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Yes, #1 and #3 are ports. Sue me. They're damn great.

(TotA, Threatrythm, Zelda and Resi: Revelaitons are the only 3DS games I've owned/played, so don't waste your time coming at me with other titles)

Doing this list based off of what my friends own.

1. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
2. Fire Emblem: Awakening.
3. Resident Evil: Revelations.
4. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
5. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
6. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
7. Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning.
8. Kid Icarus: Uprising.

I did more than 3. Really have no idea if these games are good or not. Alot of my friends say they are okay so there is that.

Is it sad I do not own a single physical copy of a 3DS game.

Ocarina of Time is amazing port. They redid all the textures in the game and made all the characters with a lot more polygons. Still a little bit harder on the 3DS than with a N64 controller.

The only games I got around to playing were FE Awakening and Ocarina of Time. Both are amazingly well made games. The reclass system in FE will have you focus on investing a lot of time into training and OoT's port has no issues.

1. Fire Emblem: Awakening (like most people, by far my favorite)
2. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
3. Harvest Moon 3D

If we could include ports I would say Ocarina of Time 3D is awesome...definitely the best version.

Future games that will take up far too much of my time include Animal Crossing: A New Leaf and Pokemon X/Y (likely Y, out of irrational chromosomic loyalty)

Thanks for the suggestions, OK so Fire Emblem: Awakening and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon seem to be popular. What about the 3rd? I was thinking of a Mario game but I don't know which one would be the best "distilled" version that sums the franchise up the best and is a good game in its own right?
