So I have been doing some reading on developers complaining about how used games are causing gameagedon. My question is why would it be so difficult to make used game retailers pay royalties to the developers for their property? The music industry is no stranger to this if a radio station wants to play a song a portion of the profits pay the record company and everyone wins. Why can a similar system not be made for games? Am I missing something here?

It's not an entirely bad idea, though as far as I know, it would be fairly unprecedented as far as the sale of physical goods goes.

I'm more curious as to how far this thread can go before it devolves into another shouting match. Seems like everybody has a hair-trigger temper on the subject for some reason. Hopefully we'll avert this for a few dozen posts this time. Godspeed, gentlemen.

This thread will be hit by an oncomming shitstorm of hate soon after this post.

That's not a bad idea. However, the cost for the royalties could be very high for the used game industry, resulting in higher prices for selling games to customers, and paying an already very low amount for games customers want to sell.

God that would be a horribly convoluted system to implement. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but it would cost so much to run and regulate I doubt it would be profitable for anybody in the end.
