...and apparently a new full title from the Borderlands series is going to be announced at PAX South.

Is it Borderlands 3? Is it Borderlands .5? Is it Borderlands: Battlecryorcallorborneorwhatever?

Saw it mentioned on other websites, so no doubt it will be mentioned on the Escapist.

So... do we believe? Do we care? Do we... dance?

Boo and hiss.

Tried revisiting BL2 since I liked it and I found myself wondering how I ever enjoyed the game. If they want to sell me another one get some writters that can write comedy not spew dated memes out of their asses, drastically overhaul the gameplay mechanics, and murder Tiny Tina. Not in any particular order.

Didn't they say when the Presequel was announced there wasn't even the thought of thinking for plans for another BL game for a few years? I thought that Tales from the Borderlands and Presequel were what was supposed to be what kept Borderlands fans satiated for that time period?

But I'll agree with Dansen, they really need to learn how to write comedy without relying on memes. Actually, I'll add onto it and say they need to learn how to write interesting characters without relying on their sexualities and deformities(whether mental, physical, Siren, etc.) as their major or sole characteristics if they insist on having linear stories.

We do nothing. Every Borderlands is basically the same. I do hate to quote Yatzhee, but when he said the only real difference between B1 and B2 was that GearBox told us they were different...that was spot on!

I'm sadly sitting on 50hrs playing B2 according to Steam, and holy fucking Emperor/Celestia, was it boring! I feel ashamed of those hours. /i can't even imagine what I felt during those hours. I don't even remember what class/character I picked or where I stopped story wise.

And I played less than an hour on B3(Prewhatever) and I seriously couldn't tell you the difference. If you put screenshots of all four Borderlands games(1, 2, 3 and Telltale) side-by-side, I couldn't tell you the difference.

To me, its simply not a good IP worth continuing.

Unfortunately, it's the only IP Gearbox has control of that's had any amount of success in the last decade, so they'll milk this cashcow until the end and then blame the consumer base for finally getting sick of it. I think I remember reading that PrS sold roughly half the copies of the other two games.

Meh. I kinda liked BL2, since it had better writing than BL1 and was designed a bit more tightly. However, BL1 was a snorefest and BL:presequel was a goddamn mess of terrible design decisions. All in all, I don't really see why everyone is so in love with Gearbox. Their flagship franchise is mediocre at best, and everything else they do tends to be a disaster (Aliens: CM, DNF)...

It's a poorly kept secret that Borderlands 3 has been in development for a while, that's why a different studio did the Pre-Sequel allowing the main Gearbox guys to work on it.

I'm happy about it.

I've played through Borderlands 1 three times, Borderlands 2 seven times, and Borderlands the Pre-sequel twice. They're fun games and I love playing them with my friends and just zoning out for a while. They aren't the deepest games, and their design is far from perfect (they are not very fun to play alone), but I still love the hell out of them. Borderlands is one of the few franchises where I even don't mind dropping money on DLC because most of the DLC is really good.

Maybe we'll actually hear something about Furious 4 or an actual Brothers in Arms game? Just a thought, Gearbox...

I'm down for it. I just hope they change it up a bit- my one complaint with borderlands has always been that stat-matching quickly overcomes any impact of skill. Give me a game like BL2 where it matters where I aim at hell difficulty or whatever and I'll be a happy camper.

And you sad 10 year olds need to stop complaining about how there's gay people in it. 1 in 4 dudes or so is gay, which means that statistically you own at least one Call of Duty about a gay dude*. That's science, live with it.

*In Ghosts it's the dog.

Come on guys, can you really blame them? Between Gearbox screwing the pooch on both Aliens CM and Duke Nukem Forever, Borderlands is basically the only tittie left for them to suck.

I just couldn't hyped for TPS, so I'm not sure how I feel about this being mentioned. I guess I am looking forward to continuing the main story instead of shoehorning in a new chapter between games. Also, hopefully we will get to play a siren again.

Eh, I only enjoyed 1 and am now enjoying 2 with a friend. Solo I find those games boring. Though there are differences between the two. Graphical upgrade, weapons reworked, classes reworked... Though basically giving Siren a stronger version of BL1's Soldier's Medic skill tree was stupid imo...

Can't say I'm looking forward to a 3rd one if it's once again mostly the same though.

For me playing Borderlands is kind of like eating paper. Bland, tedious and probably not good for my health. So, not too hyped.

I'm in this boat; no, they aren't perfect but I LITERALLY just finished the Pre-Sequel like no joke eight minutes ago with a friend and I enjoyed the crap out of it. I would MUCH rather spend a couple hours on Pandora or Elpis than ANY of the CoD games combined and while the jokes do tend to be meme-tastic, the parts that aren't I find are REALLY funny... also I don't still have a crush on Handsome Jack or his Doppleganger or anything, nope. I love the DLC. I love the voice acting. I love (most) of the writing and I like Tales from the Borderlands so far. I just find the series really fun.

One thing I enjoy about it is that my best friend is in LOVE with the series so it's easy for me to be enthusiastic if for no other reason than the fact that HE'S enthusiastic for the series. And I'll always be his buddy to do multiplayer (which again, I usually hate but I can kill several hours with a buddy or two for this series). So yeah, I'm excited as well.

Not excited to the extent of sheer unbridled glee I feel for a new Silent Hill game with Del Toro and Norman Reedus, but still excited

EDIT: Also yes, I get that all sexualities are cool. That's fine, I'm totally okay with everyone and everything. However, I'd like not to be reminded of it all the time as a running joke as I find that it gets tedious and annoying no matter who it's about. There's plenty of humour to go around and a girl telling an oblivious dude that she's not into men is only funny once, if even that often.

They're designed for co-op people, of course you're gonna find them boring if you play alone.
Looking forward to the next one, though it hasn't been that long so I don't know how it'll be. Will await more information, but probably picking it up.

Does anyone else find similarities between Borderlands and Ratchet & Clank? I love the aesthetics of both and the absurd sci-fi gameplay.

In terms of the Borderlands games... I like them, BL2 is one of my favourite games ever. But the writing is extremely inconsistent. There's a decent sense of scale, characterisation and momentum but the gags suck. Some of the scenarios prompted a few giggles out of me though.

If a BL3 (BL4?) comes out I'll definitely play it. I find the gameplay satisfying. It reminds me of Doom crossed with Diablo. Yeah you're gunning down the same guys over and over again but I eat that shit up.

I thought that Borderlands was a great proof of concept, but Borderlands 2 was the refinement of the concept into a great product. The pre-sequel was just more Borderlands 2, but with very little of it's own. I don't think that I could manage to run through another sequel based on Borderlands 2; they would need to make a new game this time.

Borderlands 3 could be a lot of fun, but we will just have to wait and see.

I played BL2 for a long time through the story mode hoping it would get better.

It didn't.

Unfortunately for me I had bought the season pass as well, so I have all the DLC sitting there and I've barely touched it (or the game) for ages now.

I had absolutely no interest in the pre-sequel and the same can be said for Borderlands 3. They need to do better than "mediocre" at everything, because that's what they are right now - Mediocre story, mediocre characters and mediocre shooter gameplay. Even the random gun mechanic isn't exciting anymore as you start to realize there are only so many ways you can "weird-up" a gun and make it interesting.
