Because I read it (after reading The Silmarillion version mind you) and I thought it was good.....until the end mostly because the of when it ended.

So after Turin Turambar's death, Hurin is then released from Morgoth, Hurin now a very old and very broken man began to wander and he caught up with his wife Morwen sitting on the Grave of their children, and after the meeting she passes away in her sleep, and the book ends right there. To me it was a grave mistake to end it there, because Hurin's story still continued afterward, he than went to Nargothrond and found Mim the Dwarf who betrayed Turin to his enemies, and Hurin than killed Mim avenging his son, than he ended up finding a Silmaril and than proceed to Doriath and gave it to Thingol in anger and mocked him. Afterward he finally ends his life by jumping off a cliff having absolutely nothing to live for, his wife dead, his children dead, all because of the Curse Morgoth placed upon him and his family for defying him, the book should have ended at that point

Still reading this makes me think a visual adaption of the Silmarillion is possible because seriously the world of Middle-Earth was a very different place in the era of the Silmarillion than now in Lord of the Rings and with much more interesting characaters arguably.

Makes me more excited for the upcoming Beren and Luthien book which admittedly I was not that impressed by it as a chapter in the larger Silmarillion so hopefully the book will expand and flesh it out better. Especially giving Beren more to say.

Well, it's called "The Children of Hurin." Why would it continue for another 2 or 3 chapters after his children are all dead? Sure, Hurin had a few more adventures before dying tragically as well, but Turin's story is self-contained already, and dragging out the conclusion to tell another, and no less bleak, story would be a worse ending. I admit, when I read it it was a bit abrupt, but it would be no matter how it was told unless it included the entire overarching story of the Silmarillion.

As to a movie version, I would prefer a tv show a la Game of Thrones. A movie series would have to be at least 6 or 7 films long to get all of it, and the format of the book would lend itself very very poorly to the 3 act structure necessary of film. But a tv series on a premium channel could do it all justice. And people used to say LotR was unfilmable, which was obviously false, so I believe The Silmarillion could certainly be done well, just better as an HBO series.

But the book started with Hurin. It began with him getting ready for War, his battle with Morgoth's Armies, and his capture.

To me the book is more about the family of Hurin than just Turin Turambar, and the whole Curse upon the Family by Morgoth.

The Curse officially ends when Hurin takes his life which should have ended at that part imo.

Haven't read this one yet. Busy rereading This Side of Paradise [http://www.bartleby.com/115/] by Fitzgerald.
