So who or what pushed the DRM?

So yesterday the big bomb dropped. Xbone can play games without the internet. So the question is now why was Mircosoft so set on shoving it down in our throat? We now know that the hardware/software needing it is bullshit. And the cloud requirement was a bunch of hot air. And gamers have been very vocal in the past over other DRM requirements. So who was pushing the DRM so hard?

I believe the answer can be found in the first announcements of DRM when the spokeman said this "We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games". Anyone else pick up on that? GAME PUBLISHERS can enable or diable the trading of games as they wanted to. Not Microsoft but game publishers.

As there was truely no hardeware requirement there is no othr possible need or reason to have DRM other than some game publishers were pushing and or bribing(possible both) Mircosoft to include this into the console.

In light of this revelation anyone else find EA's call "for reason/calm" PR move on the Xbone somewhat suspicious?

Aren't Microsoft a publisher themselves? That alone could be reason enough.

Perhaps they were banking on the idea that a console which appeals to publishers by eliminating, or at least partially eliminates, used sales of its games would in turn net them a tidy crop of exclusives.

I wouldn't say anyone "Pushed it" onto Microsoft, but Microsoft was probably listening to the complaints that Third Parties are making less and less money on more and more expensive games. Microsoft obviously wanted to make these Parties happy, so they implemented their DRM. Then the Fans got pissed. Microsoft tried to make their DRM look less and less appalling (Not appealing, appalling), but the fans would hear none of it. So now, both Third Parties and Microsoft are trembling in fear of the Consumer and their wrath.

Something you're forgetting, Microsoft makes no money, in fact they lose money, when a Console is sold. They make money of XBox Live, and off of new game sales. This DRM would have meant they get a cut of used game sales as well. While publisher pressure played a part, MS stood to make a lot of money off of this.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft was pushing it all by themselves. For all people looooove to hate on them, EA has never been chuffed about putting games on as many platforms as possible to try maximizing the profit margins--Why do you think Mass Effect stopped being Xbox exclusive when EA started publishing it? So despite what conspiracies people theorize about, I highly doubt EA (or any other publisher; seriously, how many games were actually Xbox exclusive this past generation?) was holding some nebulous group of exclusive games hostage and threatening Microsoft to implement this system or else they'd bring the games over to Sony and the PC as well.
