Okay, I think we can all agree that Batman and Sherlock Holmes are the greatest detectives in all fiction.

But who, in your opinion, gives them a run for their money?

Maybe Naoto from Persona 4? Professor Layton? Velma?

Personally, I'm going with The Question:

I quite like C. Auguste Dupin, Hercule Poirot, Lester Freamon and Nick and Nora Charles. My all-time favourite though is Detective Frank Pembleton with Meldrick Lewis a close second.

But Frank most of all because Andre Braugher is formidable.

Guy Noir, Private Eye!
As voiced by Garrison Keillor!
I love the Prairie Home Companion.

Now, you young 'uns might not know about it, but the Prairie Home Companion is a radio show on NPR that is hilarious.
You should listen to it, since the podcasts are available online.

I would say Castle but he isn't a detective so I'll go with Harry Dresden, Ray Lilly(not really a detective either), or John Taylor.

How has Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade not been mentioned yet? I mean, Maltese Falcon. Come on.

No one watches the classics anymore.

Horatio Caine from CSI:Miami. It counts if he isn't real. Although is does very little CSI'ing he does figure things out more quickly than others.
