So, would you have done the same?

Was in the kitchen and saw a pretty large spider. being a bit fond of the arachnids I went and researched what it was and came back with hobo spider. My roomies wanted to squish it, I caught it and released it into the garden. Would you have done the same or just dropped a phone book on it? Any other dangerous critters you tend to have a soft spot for and remove instead of kill when they show up to share your house?

I believe in spirit guides, so I'd have done the same, yes. I've had to remove spiders that didn't even fit in the palm of my hand without the legs coming through my fingers before.

I usually leave spiders alone. I don't like to touch 'em 'cause their legs feel all scuttley and weird, but I don't try and kill them.
However, If I see a wasp in the sink, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm turning the tap on. Wasps are just jerks. They're like asshole bees.

If the spider is harmless, I let them roam freely. But if they end up near my bed, I reach for a shoe. Spiders are creepy as shit, but if they stay out of my way I'm fine with them.

I get someone else to remove it. I don't like the idea of killing something just because I find it personally annoying. But if left alone, I'd probably kill it.

This once resulted in a situation which is the closest to a religious experience I've ever had. I killed a spider in my room, and felt bad, actually spoke out loud saying "I'm sorry, that spider didn't deserve that.". When I looked back down another spider had appeared, and I thought "If this is a test, I'm gunna fail it...".

I don't like killing spiders...but they can be scary, yeah. If it's just a web spinning one, that sits in its corner and doesn't do anything, well, may as well leave it there, might get rid of flies for me.

I believe in personally squashing anything with an exoskeleton, regardless of species, gender, or proximity. This has lead to a few problems regarding lobster tanks in restaurants.

I'd give it freedom. It's a sentient being, why should I kill it? It's not going to harm me. Now if it posed some kind of real threat, yes I would have killed it.

Phone book? no, i have crippling arachnophobia which i turn into arachno-killfury, i'd cut it's damned legs off and let a fly come to laugh at him.
And no, they aren't sentient.

Any spider that gets spotted in this house gets killed.

Currently have a few giant house spiders wandering around and from what I can gather they come out around this time looking for a mate.

7 this past week have felt the wrath of the shoe.

Well I have 2 choices. I can kill them quick or I can leave them for the Ferret to toy with.

And no, no I can't catch them I hate the little bastards and my wife and kids won't go near them.

I do have a slight fear of them after 1 night in Iraq. We were on a patrol and came to a stop for a 10 minute rest. I was a bit tired so I led down for 5 minutes and felt a thud on my chest. Looked down and had a fething Camel Spider sat on my chest ..... ugliest bastarding thing i've ever seen. It ran off, I nearly shit myself, haven't been able to have any form of spider near me since.

In a strange twist to the tale though I absolutely love Scorpions.

I leave most of them alone, but certain ones I kill.

I kill wasps though, usually with hats (which are oddly effective weapons for killing bugs).

A hobo spider? I'd give it the respect it deserves and kill it.

It's not a baby bird or a cute little bunny. It's a cold and calculating killer and worthy of the respect that such predators deserve. It doesn't want your pity or your kindness, nor does it care. Of course spiders, snakes, and the like make us nervous, they are among the ultimate predators, and despite their size something in the dark recesses of our minds knows that.

It was in my territory after all.

If it's in the kitchen, then yes, I probably would've killed it. For me whether I kill a bug or not depends on what kind of bug it is and where it is.

Well I wouldn't kill it because Spiders help get rid of other insects. If it was any other bug it would have been dead where it stood.

Hobo spiders are nearly indistinguishable from other spiders of the genus Tegenaria, so if you managed to accurately identify it by eye, without looking closely at it's reproductive apparatus, well done, you have a very unique talent.

What I mean to say is, what made you sure it was a hobo spider? But yes, I'd have done the same. I would have caught it first mind, not wandered off, but I'd have released it; they're potential for flesh necrosis is greatly exaggerated, and they're useful pest control.

Big bugs creep me out, though bug guts are equally disgusting. I have an aversion to both options, but I'd rather just kill it, because at least that eliminates the possibility of it coming back. I'd rather get someone else to do it though.

I have a varied policy with Spiders. If they're venomous (white-tails, red-backs) they die, no doubts about it. If they're any where but my bedroom, I'm live and let live. If they're in my bedroom they die. The only exception is daddy longlegs, because they're harmless and huntsman spiders (who get moved from my bedroom). I make deal with huntsmans, I let a huntsman live in my pantry because they eat cockroaches, but the deal was if he climbed over my hand while I was reaching for cereal he died. That worked out quite well for me.
