It's an old piece of gaming wisdom: Use at least 3 different saving slots!
I've had to learn this a couple of times the hard way. Once, when playing Tomb Raider 2, I fell down a cliff into an abyss, and while in the air, I saved the game, overwriting the only slot I had, when I actually tried to load it...
Another time, in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, in the last mission, I overwrote the save slot with under 10 seconds on the clock. For those who haven't played it: the last mission is a race against the time. You have to get to different places to defuse bombs (as I remember). I was wasting too much time and wanted to reload the last save. I actually DID make it, after around 100 tries. This, or replaying the whole game.
Did you have facepalming moments like that? If so, how did you cope with them?
