Okay, so right now I am attending College.
And I have just realised how Social Networking has killed the Social skills of everyone.
I myself, owned a Myspace (but never use it anymore) and never really had a Facebook.
Now, I understand that most people like to stay in touch with other people a lot more through Facebook who don't see each other all the time.
...
But when you hear people talking in PERSON about what they were talking about/wrote on Facebook, or what someone looked like on a Facebook photo OR what someone said about someone else on Facebook... Surely this is the lowest level of communicating?
You might as well just live on Facebook and only interact when deemed necessary.

So anyway, what do you guys think? Facebook too influential over social skills? Or are College people just hoarding my brain with Facebook thoughts?

You're trying to make the point that communicating about communication is "low", which is clearly nonsensical. Do you have the same kind of reaction when someone talks to you about something someone else told them the other day?

Pretty much this.

Just because its a new medium doesn't mean it should be looked down on.

I have no problem talking about what my status update was yesterday or how hi-larious his photo comment was.

I don't think its Facebooks fault, nor is it the people at your college. I'm blaming your 'high and mighty-ism'

Sure but isn't this the same thing as guess what such and such said on the phone last night or in a text message or in a telegram or in a letter, It's the same thing it's just being adapted, although I kinda get what your going on about.

ok so talking about a way they communicate isn't good communication?

well sorry but people do like to talk about things they have in common or things they shared, just cause you don't like it doesn't make it low cause frankly you aren't any better than they are

Okay, well first I'm not trying to be high and mighty - I was just expressing my anger on how people just can't make any good conversation in my groups anymore. It all has to be on what they all did on Facebook, or what other people have been talking about on Facebook.
Yes, Facebook is a good medium and it shouldn't be looked down upon but when it becomes the most important topic of the day - surely something is going wrong?

Maybe lower social skills wasn't the best choice of words, and I'll accept that.
It just seems really crazy that all we have to talk about is what goes on Facebook rather than the world at the moment.
Maybe I'm just striving for better conversation - maybe I need to sit near less Facebook people.
