In about a week me and 4 other friends are having a gaming lan party and i was thinking what games do you recommend for playing. Any genre except sports is fine and we need it to be EXTREMELY fun.
Captcha: wash whites separately.
Um ok. Thanks for the tip?

I'm actually having a 4 player lan soon with friends.

We make a spreadsheet on google and give us all access to it to share ideas.

We each blitz out some games, in order to form a list of proposed games. And then everyone gets a vote on each game, as to whether they want to play it, might play it or would not play it.

The games we considered this time, as part of this mind splurge of ideas, were: AoE 2, Borderlands 2, Broforce, Day Z, Diablo 3, Dungeon Siege, Forced, Guns of Icarus, Minecraft, Monaco, Rise of Nations, Rust, Saints Row, Settlers 3, Space Engineers, Starcraft 2, Terraria/Starbound, TF2, Titan Quest, Trackmania and Vegas 2.

I think you might find it a bit more difficult with 5 people, but I think this method is quite a good one. Doesn't put the emphasis on one person to come up with all the ideas as well, more collaborative.

The idea is to say that no game is a bad game to suggest to the list (I even suggested one to our lan which I said 'no' to), but just to put down everything you think of and let the voting later take care of whether you want to play it or not.

Have you been to Co-Optimus yet? I'm assuming your platform will be PC. It's a great site:

Co-Optimus listings for 4-player minimum and LAN capabilities [http://www.co-optimus.com/system/4/pc.html].

Unfortunately the site's comprehensiveness isn't infallible. I remember finding an official list on Steam that allowed you to filter your requirements but for the life of me I can't remember how I found it.

Considering all of the above, I think I can save you a bunch of time and just say you'll be playing Borderlands 2.

*EDIT* Damn I'm tired. I totally missed your 5-player requirement.

Hmm stuff I remember from my own lan parties:
Serious Sam: Blowing stuff up never loses it's charm.
Sven Co-Op: Half Life 1 Mod, with a huge amount of maps. Graphics are dated but a lot of fun.
Warcraft 3 or Starcraft 2: Huge amount of custom maps.
Neverwinter Nights: Can be fun if you have a group that is into RPGs, but the multiplayer can be a bit strange at times because not every campaign is really fit for it.

Well fuck. Didn't realize someone just dug this thread up from the grave and replied. Sorry mods, I have failed you. And to the guy above me, necromancy is outlawed in these parts.
