So i'l be getting what is most probably a low grade laptop soon and will buy some classics that a lot of people have been saying are great like the original Fallout's, Diablo 2 and the Baldurs Gate series. I was wondering, i absolutely adored Dragon Age: Origins so will i like the Baldurs Gate series?

And what other PC games would you recommend for quite a medium - low grade laptop. I'm sorry but i don't know the specs yet, its my cousins laptop.

I never played the Fallout's or Baldurs Gate but Diablo 2 is a great game all around. As per your question, I don't know much about statistics needed to play games. Sorry I am unhelpful.

The Baldur's gate series has a great story, if you happen to like reading massive amounts of text. (Not saying that I don't, you understand.) Planescape: Torment has one of the best stories in video games. They both have pretty good, tactical gameplay as well.

If you like a bit more D&D combat with a bit less story, than the Icewind Dale games are also a great choice.

Since you like Diablo II, I also recommend Nox, Divine Divinity, and Dungeon Siege.

Yeah, i'm fine with reading a lot of text. Divine Divinity 2 didn't look all that good though and i personally haven't actually played Diablo 2 though, i just thought it look cool and a lot of people say its good.

Diablo 2 is a good game, if you like atmosphere and hack-and-slashing. It's kinda like WoW, where you sometimes stumble across a really good item, which can vindicate the hours wasted (in a good way) on the computer screen.

Divine Divinity (The original, not 2) is like Diablo, but with a better story and more difficult and tactical gameplay. Dungeon Siege is basically a very good Diablo 2 clone, with a rather unique setting. Nox is also a Diablo clone, but also has a great setting.

By Diablo 'clone,' I mean in terms of gameplay, not story or anything like that. It's actually great since Diablo 1 and 2 had a great gameplay system anyway.

This isn't really a classic, but the game Torchlight is also very good. Again, it rips off Diablo 2, but is in a steampunk-ish and cartoonized setting. The game is made to run on basically any computer, and works on archaic Pentium 2 processors.

Deus Ex is also great, but it hasn't necessarily aged well. Still amazing if you like conspiracy theories, though, and you can play it almost any way you want. Wanna play it guns blazing? Check. Wanna play it as a sneaky bastard? check.

EDIT: The original Medieval: Total War is great in how it makes history go completely crazy, and has a great tactical battle system as well. Basically, you pick a country, build up your army and cities, and wage war on whoever you want. You can really conquer all of the Old World, if you happen to be godly at the game.

While not exactly an old game or a classic, Torchlight has a netbook mode that allows it to run at absurdly low specs. It's pretty much a Diablo clone, but with a few refinements here and there. If you haven't played it, I'd recommend it. Check out the Escapist Review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6697-Review-Torchlight] of it too.

I managed to get hold of a physical copy, so they do exist. You'll probably have a far easier time tracking down a digital distribution copy though.

Baldurs gate is basically about 50 times better then dragon age. I will straight up warn you it has a extremely high learning curve. You need to understand the deeper works of how the state and combat system works or your screwed. It does have several difficulty settings to help with that though. IF you do get this I recomend looking up BGtutu its a mod that lets you play bg1 using the bg2 engine and you can get others to up the resolution. Their is also a bug where it turns the water green but their is another mod to fix that. Their is also bugs with nividia graphics cards but you can look up a quick fix in the games setting to fix that one.

Diablo 2 is dangerous in that you can easily forget that you just spent 100 hours playing that game. Its alot of fun.

dungeon keeper gold. Its alittle old but the graphics dont hinter it at all. It still holds up just fine today.

medieval/shogun total war
torchlight

all of these games are pretty much guarenteed to run on anything made in the last 10 years.
What about Medieval 2 Total War? It's Buy one get one free on PC games on a website i'm going to probably buy the PC games from.

Planescape: Torment. If you haven't played this game, you must now do so. I demand it! It is my favorite game of all time and has what I consider the best pure story ever told in video game history.

Civilization 3 is obvioously a good choice for strategy on lower-end systems.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe's Exodus are both fantastic, clever platformers.

The original X-COM UFO Defense is one of the greatest games of all time and cheap as dirt on Steam.

I can probably think of more, but those are requirements.

This man is a Prophet of God and will lead you to the promised land.

So what I'm saying is that yeah, you should get Planescape. If you were unsure if games could move you as a human being, well, your question will be answered.

Probably?

The game is based off of DnD 2.5 edition (with some 3 mixed in here and there), so if you're familiar with the slaying of the dragons and the delving into the dungeons, then yeah you'll like it. If you DON'T.. well, the game is COMPLICATED. Though if you set it down to easy and check out some of the guides on gamefaqs for basic rules, you should be fine. Also, you might not like the original BG that much, just skip to the second one if you don't like it that much. That's where the series gets great.

Some recommendations (including those above):
Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (it's like BG with steampunk and guns)
Warcraft 3
StarCraft
Dawn of War 1
System Shock
Grim Fandango
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (this might be hard to run, depending on the computer you're getting)

screw it, just check out gog.com

However, I would recomend Age of Empires 2.

You're right, Final Fantasy 6 sucks compared to Final Fantasy 13...

Going retro is fine if you know what you're getting into and if you aren't playing a game that was popular at the time due to its technology.

The original command and conquers are available for free from their website so you may as well give them a look.

I'm quite confused, which is the first one and which ones are free?

This is what I mean. The old command and conquers were released freeware. Not graphic intensive and free is free.
Also area 51 the game released in 2005. It was released as freeware too.
And the first 2 elder scrolls games are freeware too now from the elderscrolls website.

If you want to spend a little money you could probably get the original Thief.

As for what games you can play, use that. I've never tried it, but people say it's pretty accurate.
