So, hypothetical situation: What if you met a person who had never heard the sound of music? Obviously, it would be nearly impossible to actually explain it with words, so you would have to pick a song for him to listen to. What would be the one song you would pick to encapsulate the idea of music for him?

I would go with either this (particularly the end)

or something similarly classical and iconic.

I'd like to hear your thoughts. What song would best represent music to someone who has never heard it before?

I consider this song to be one of the most beautiful I've ever heard.

Well, you don't give someone learning to read Moby Dick, so honestly, I would pick some simple melody like Ode to Joy or something like that.

I probably over-analyzed this.

I was expecting something like Duvet by BOA from you actually.

OT:
-Duvet by BOA (since Sacman didn't mention it).
-Gobbledigook by Sigur Ro's
-Siege of Madrigal by the guy than I cannot remember his name.
-The Prelude in C# Minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff
-Orion, Three Thousand or We Want War. The three songs are made by These New Puritans.

Well I wanted to pick the most unfriendly songs I know just to turn some heads...<.<

Cranked for maximum effect. I really like it so I would let them listen to this. Then maybe some Wagner and some Jazz afterwards :D

Guys, remember this person has never heard music before. What are you trying to do, kill them?

I doubt there's a person alive who's never heard of music in some form, but in the situation that I met someone like that, I'd likely go with some classical, calm music. I can't think of anything in particular though. That's mainly because that music isn't as 'invasive' as most other music (looking at you metal music).

Yea but everyone loves a little bit of harsh noise.

I'm going to assume their deaf and have just received the ability to hear. Taht being said, I would probably choose...

Alice in Chains, "Down in a Hole"

Because its grunge and it sums up a good portion of how the world works.
