Reading through some of the threads on here, there are so many Halo Reach spoilers but i got to say, why do you try to mask the spoilers, the people that wanted to play the game have already bought about 6.4 copies of it, finished it in a few hours and are now called everyone noobs and teabagging every corpse on multiplayer, so spoilers dont effect them, and anyone who hasn't done this already clearly has no intention of doing it, thus they wont care either.

I still don't get the massive appeal of The halo franchise, i've played Combat evolved, Halo ODST and Halo 3 and every single one of them was a boring, linear, mediocre shooter, it doesnt do anything that makes me go "wow thats pretty awesome". Ive given this series 2 to many chances to prove it's self and to justify it's hype. as for the supposed easter egg, why do people give a massive shit about Master Chief? hes a faceless, emotionless mute in a power suit, just like every other playable Halo Character.
can someone try to explain to me why Halo is so great because i just don't see it.

A mute? Chief doesn't talk much, but he does talk. You can even get his voice in Reach. And in complete honesty, I was dying to buy Reach, and I didn't have the money. In fact, I was expecting to get it for Christmas.
It was only a sudden wave of generosity from my parents that got me a copy. So, yes, spoilers are still necessary. In fact, some people might be waiting till it goes on sale.

The appeal lies in the fun. The fact you can sit and play with a bunch of mates and have a good time. It's unrealistic, it's pretty, and you can get a good laugh out of it.
And what kind of shooter were you expecting? A sandbox shooter? That's crazy talk, son.

Oh awesome... Halo player generalisations...

Also because some people play the multiplayer more than the singleplayer so they may not have finished yet.

You have an opinion... as do I. If you don't 'get' Halo, you don't need to because that's up to you whether you like it or not.

People who care about Master Chief mainly care for the same reason as original Dante or Sgt. Johnson... cause he kills things and makes it look good.

How dare people like a well made, big budget, first person shooter with a distinctive aesthetic, iconic heroes and rock solid multiplayer! Can't they see how terrible it is!?

To answer the first: lots of people wait for prices to drop, or for GOTY editions with DLC included. Not everyone buys on day 1.

Second: Seriously? You've never met anyone who didn't have the same favorite food as you? I mean, I could explain why artichokes are the best thing ever, but if you don't like them, it won't matter.

Really? I often play games a long time after they were released simply because it's cheaper. You can't dismiss everyone who hasn't played Reach as uninterested in the same way that you can't dismiss everyone driving a cheap car as having poor taste. It just isn't right.

You had a legitimate point till you mentioned artichokes.
Like, artichokes? Really?

No doubt. The only people who like artichokes are corpse-humping, teabagging, frat-boy douchebags.

First I'm gonna clarify that i think Halo is a load of shit. It's boring and generic by modern standards and its story is nothing special to me.

Ok now on to the not fun part

First off, Master Chief isn't a mute, I clearly remember a voice when watching a couple potheads play number 3. I believe the reason Halo is such a big deal is because when it was introduced it was a different design of fps and something that console kids weren't used to, so being console kids they latched on to it instantly. They like what's generic and "in" and Halo has sadly filled that niche for a load of dipshits. It's not a great game, it's just that standards are low for them so they believe that Halo is the greatest thing ever.

Not trying to flame but that's just what i honestly think

You know, I really don't think Halo is just a "polarizing game," I think the problem is that the fans go on about its amazingness so much that anybody who didn't initially get into the hype is expecting it to be amazing, and then when they play it and just find it to be a somewhat above average FPS, they're disappointed.

In other words, fuck hype, seriously.

And I know this because I used to be one of the Halo haters, and I didn't honestly ever think the game was complete crap, I just didn't like it because 1, everyone would always say it's the best game ever when I didn't see anything special about it, and 2, whenever I did play it, I would just wander around a boring environment for a half minute or so and then get killed by someone I couldn't see, and then rinse and repeat.

Yeah, you can tell me I only don't like it because I suck at the game, but it's not my fault that I didn't have an Xbox and therefore wasn't able to get into the Halo hype from the start. And didn't really care enough anyway.

I know hating on Halo is sort of in vogue right now, but I actually like it :)O) so here we go.

Halo is made by people who care about their games, so it has been incredibly polished (except for Halo 2, cough cough), the world/backstory is incredibly developed, which comes through in the art design, which is very unique to Halo, and it has pretty freakin' good music, to boot.

What really sets Halo apart, in my opinion, are all the ideas that has been implemented outside of the actual gameplay. Things like the "virtual couch", rank system, dual wielding, 2 weapon limit, FORGE(!!?!), Theater/screenshots, and even melee were pretty much introduced to console shooters by Halo.

I could go on with a megarant, but there are things that must be done.

You don't like artichokes??! You're probably just a potato fanboy who doesn't understand the innovative nature of the artichoke.

I was actually in a frat for a couple years in college, how'd you know? I've been off corpse-humping for a while now, my sponsor says I should be all better after a few more meetings.

Well, my friend got Halo 1 when it first came out, and it was different from the other shooters we played then (namely Time Splitters 1/2). We liked it because there was a different play stlye (2 guns, regenerating health, etc). Of course that play style has become the norm because of the massive success of Halo franchise. So the games have been hailed as masterpieces because they now exemplify mediocrity. In other words, they were new and different, but everything else copied the 2 guns regen health thing and now they are just average.

I played all of them at some point; played Reach for the first time yesterday (and found out I was pretty good...)

This just in: Halo is extremely popular because it's well made and has a relatively interesting storyline, especially for a FPS. Stop complaining about it on forums.

OMFGSTFUNOOB. Innovative nature of the artichoke? It just copied off the potato! That whole edible thing? Potato done it first. Artichokes are for little children, they're not a true vegetable, they're a gimmick!

One word...... FUN!

Halo is fucking FUN! Halo: Reach is even more FUN! It's what video games are SUPPOSED to be! EVERY TIME I put Halo in my 360 I have a good time. Even if I'm getting my ass completely kicked it's still FUN.

Some people haven't got enough money to run out and buy a game the day it's released.

And as for Master Chief, try reading the books.

Masterchief is not emotionless, he is subtle, there is a difference. as to why halo is so popular, a lot of people love the gameplay, and the plot. i would prefer if there was more plot, but i find what is there to be much more engaging than the plot of any other shooter i have ever played or heard of. especially when u include the games and halsey's journal. Halo the first is the reason i switched from the playstation console to the xbox and 360, i will admit that reach is somewhat depressing because with over a year to work in, instead of fixing the single greatest flaw i have ever seen in a multiplayer game(I'm talking about mutuals, mutual beat downs, mutual beatdowns when one of u has the sword, mutual body shot's mutual headshots, and mutual snipes), they actually made it worse. I have yet to play a reach multiplayer match when i didn't mutual at least 3 times, adn i have successfully beat someone down maybe 3 times sinse i got the game without getting a mutual. this ruins the experience for me because my favorite part of halo is the close quarters combat. odst was also depressing in general, it totally broke the difficulty of the game, on heroic, one shotgun to the back would kill a hunter, and as long as you had "stamina" (read shields, which odst's don't have) you could bat away grenades without getting stuck, something which the spartans, 2 whole iterations of improved soldier later, (the original improvement program was enhancing volunteers which failed) can't do with energy shields. wow, that was quite a rant.

So not trying to flame is calling everyone who likes Halo dipshits? Yeah... somehow I smell a troll...
