first of all i'll provide a link to IGN.com which is where i happened upon this.
http://uk.wii.ign.com/objects/142/14268379.html
Also, i looked around for a similar thread, no results were turned out.

First of all, i'd like to ask the question that first came to my lips upon watching the trailer (provided by IGN)

"What?"

I realise that imagining that the Sonic series will ever redeem itself for it's seemingly neverending list of mistakes it's made lately is a fools errand.

I realise while someone must have thought that putting weapons into the Sonic Franchise was a good idea (because someone is responsible for Shadow the Hedgehog ever coming into existance)
And while these people may well have lliked this idea, the majority of people who play Sonic games weren't impressed.

Assuming the majority of that audience are people who're old enough to give a damn about Sonic.

But really, i would have thought that Shadow the Hedgehog would've been enough of an eye-opener to make the developers realise that weapons + Sonic don't mix in an easily recieved way.

Of course this may well be only my opinion, i mean i'm a fan of the older Sonic titles and any move towards those days with current console power would be a good move (older meaning around about the Sonic Adventure Battle era).

So, the reason i have for making any thread on the internet, i'd like othr peoples opinions on this.

Surely i can't be the only person who knows about this, so maybe someone else can bring some more information on the game to light?

Either one of those options would be appreciated.

Why do they keep making hedgehogs use weaponry. They aren't suited to it.

I actually heard about it on Wikipedia of all places a couple months back. This game is supposed to be less like Shadow and more like Secret Rings, but I don't know what that means cuz I never played either.

I think they wanted an excuse to have people swing the Wii-mote a-la No More Heroes but nowhere near as awesome

all i've managed to read is that it's an "innovative" (like that means much now days) sonic title making full use of the wiimote and the nun-chuck...

Likely this translates to:
"Use the wiimote to swing the sword, use the nun-chuck to move."

If it's the case, then i'm still not impressed.

But yeah, my main gripe is still the idea they're mixing weapons and sonic together.

As if the lack of a sword hinders his progress in saving the world umpteen times before breakfast.

I think all new Sonic games can be described with a three-letter word - meh.

This just seems like a bad idea from the get go, and I've no doubt it'll prove to be in execution as well. Sonic should be about speed, and if you need to stop constantly to slice bots of enemies with a blade, surely that's contrary to his motto of being 'The Fastest Thing Alive'?

Valid point, although if the gameplay footage provided with the trailer suggests anything it's that most enemies will be easily taken down by a single swipe of the sword.

which makes for very samey combat.

Ahh Nintendo and it's extra bits. If you watch the Angry Videogame Nerd, you'll realize all this crap isn't new for Nintendo- There was more then half a dozen different snes/nes special controllers and widgets, most of which were made of Fail and Lose. And plastic. Lots and lots of plastic...

Though, they never tried to push them quite as much as Nintendo is pushing the Wiimote.

I never quite understood why Shadow needed weapons when he can control time.

Why does Sonic need weapons if he can travel faster than the speed of sound? It seems a tad silly really.

And they're hedgehogs! Their heads are made out of SPIKES for christs sake! Sonic can deliver possibly the most painful headbutt you'll ever feel and they give him a sword? Bugger that. Espio could use weapons because he was a ninja, that made sense. He had throwing stars and whatnot. Sonic needs a sword as much as I need a tub of acid poured over my head and molten silver injected into my veins.

Which is not very much, for anyone who was wondering.

This is just sad. I wish sega would just let sonic die, instead of letting the series get worse and worse.

They aren't thinking it's a good idea, they are "experimenting". And I'm tired of hearing,"The Werehog is retarded." or "Giving him a sword won't help."

1. The games haven't come out yet so SHUT UP.
2. How do you know what would help?

No, they haven't come out yet, but that's not going to shut us up. We're fans, we're entitled to our opinions. And we think Sega has pretty much lost the plot when it comes to Sega games.

And we know what would help the Sonic series more then Sonic Team do, judging by the shit they've tried to pass off as games over the years.

To be honest, if they really want to make the series good again, they need to stop making them themselves. Farm them out to other companies, like they did with Dark Chronicles. Now THAT was an experiment, and I think it paid off - it may be hit and miss, but at least half the people who play it actually enjoy it. Can you say the same about Shadow the Hedgehog, or Sonic '06, or Sonic Heroes?

I like the fact that they're experimenting, trying to mix things up, it WOULD work if they could just do it right.
I'd like it anyway. (If it was done right.)

That's awesome, just wish they didn't have to duplicate characters (two of Light and...poossibly two of Kyon, lighting makes it hard to tell) Still, saved for future usage. :D

sonic games for genisis, awesome. fun kids games and were i less lazy or more monied i would occasionally still play them. i think people at sega need to SHUT THE FUCK UP "more characters=better", who thought that up? i mean seriously, you dont NEED a story you need good speed based platformer gameplay NOTHING ELSE MATTERS, and i had something really funny to say but i got really angry at the idea of defiling some of the few fond memories from my childhood yet again.
