Sony owns the PS3, Microsoft owns the 360, Valve owns the PC?

If you think about it most major PC games that come out are sold through steam so you can imagine that valve is getting some profit out of almost all popular games that come out on PC; just like how nintendo gets money for Wii titles. What do you guys think about Valve owning the PC gaming industry?

Most major PC games are also sold as physical discs. While Valve does make money from anything bought through Steam, this does not mean that Valve owns the PC gaming industry.

Steam is a popular program on the PC, but there are other programs where you can buy games, like Direct2Drive through Gamestop. But who would use that when you can get games on Steam for 75% off? I don't think Valve owns the PC, because no one does, you don't have to use any program to play games, but they are really helping it.

yeah that's mostly what I meant. I meant I thought they were the largest support when it comes to PC gaming.

Sony makes the ps3. Microsoft makes the 360. Valve doesn't make PC. Microsoft also makes PC. I don't think valve owns anything then what they own. Certainly not the PC as anyone can provide to it and valve has no control over it nor does it make a intrest in doing so.

Valve is the powerhouse of digital distribution, but the widespread usage of hard discs means that they will never truly "own" the PC.

For sure. They sell other devs games along with theirs, so they really help people get into PC gaming because all the games are there, and there's no hassle.

Well, seeing as how Microsoft and Sony own the actual hardware/consoles and Valve doesn't make hardware I would say it doesn't own the PC.

I want to rephrase and say that they don't own it, but are one of the largest companies keeping it afloat against consoles
