So ya, after what many fans were speculating was going to be a Soul Calibur game after Namco's latest countdown clock, turns out they were right.

Soul Calibur 5 was announced at Namco's "Level Up" event in Dubai.

Not that much has been said atm and they are planing to release a trailer within the next short while, but what has been said is enough to make a hypothesis about the game.

The game is apparently going to be set 17 years after the events of SC4, and thus is going to be huge generation gap in the series, along with having a new main protagonist with Patroklos, Sophitia's son.

The game is going to have new characters, as well as another set of guest characters that Namco has yet to decide on or release info for.

They have also gone on to say that they are shifting the focus from two handed weapons to short swords, and saying this will allow for a more fast paced and elegant combat.

Other than that, they have stated that the game is planned for a 2012 release and that more info will be on the way.

Article: Soul Calibur 5 details

So with that all said and done with....hype? opinions? fears??

Should be good providing they put command buffering back in. Most annoying thing they did was remove that in 4. You know, other than rearranging everyone's commands.

There is a good chance I'll get this. What I really hope they will do is have it so that you can choose your weapon after choosing your fighter (like in SCII or SCIII) unlike having to change a character's costume details in order to pick another weapon (like in SCIV)

New story? More reasonably-sized swords? Color me intrigued. Let's hope the guest characters aren't ass.

Mitsurugi or GTFO.

In all seriousness though, hopefully the leap in 'generation' as they call it will be matched with a leap in maturity. I love Soul Calibur, but jiggle physics no longer interest me.

I'm just hoping they'll bring back Necrid and give him a bit more of a unique fighting style. Seriousely, he's a demon ho can turn his mighty blob of energy into pretty much every kind of weapon, he was my favorite character in SC2.

It won't suprise me if Ivy costume is somehow even more skimpy and Knightmare is even more demonic looking.

I'm personally hoping the game goes back to being more like Soul Caliber 3 rather than 4. I enjoyed both games, but I played 3 so much more than I did 4.

Get rid of the destructible clothes.
Get rid of the stat changing clothes.
Make character creation as good as 3.
No guest characters.(Well...maybe but the only ones that were good were Link and Spawn)
Bring back Chronicle of the Sword.
Bring back Team Battle mode.

Yes, yes, YES!
I can only hope that a lot of my favorites return, hopefully with improvements. I can see Yoshi and Setsuka easily making a comeback, but with a new sophitia-esque character, Lizardman may go the way of his dinosaur brethren D:

They can't. Necrid is owned by the guy who did Spawn(can't remember his name, but he made the design for them for the game, which is one of the main reasons Spawn was in it too), so they can't add him back into the cast.

As for everything else, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the whole thing. From the new characters, to the supposed new playstyle, and if it's 17 years of story progression, how much the current characters change.

Rearranging commands is a time honoured tradition in Soul Calibur, just like upgrading the breast size of every adult female despite them being, y'know, adults.

I'm most likely not even going to bother with this one. III was meh, IV was a downright mess. I honestly doubt they can reverse the trend, let alone make it better than the original Soul Calibur.

Just another game for me to beat my one friend at. I'll beat him, but my other friend will beat me online. Oh well. I'm looking forward to it. Who knows? Maybe I'll beat them both!

I'm psyched for this and all...

but wtf is Namco doing in Dubai? Shouldn't they be making the announcement in the East-Asian or North American areas, where their primary demographic is?
