I've been there. I stayed at La Linea in the Andalucia region in the south. It really depends where you go. Different towns are...well different

I have been to Costa Del Sol, but i was also only young and can not really remember it well. But i must say, if you see any stray cats, please stop and feed them. I know Spain has a habbit of killing them for fur so i also found out. That was the only thing i hated Spain for. Hundreds of starving or dead cats everywhere. My mum would buy packs of ham and feed them.

My parents moved to Spain a few years ago. If you google map your location the town they're close to, Estepona, is visible - La Linea as mentioned by an earlier poster is very close to Gibraltar which is at the tip of Spain and also not far from where you'll be going. Gibraltar is like a little slice of England with a Spanish twist.

My experiences from my visits are that it'd be a nice place to live and work although I think the heat in the summer would take some getting used to. It's relatively warm all year round, my folks will be drinking wine on their balcony in November.

The Spanish have an unusual attitude I believe the phrase goes "manana manana" or "tomorrow tomorrow" that takes a bit of getting used to - you have to learn to relax. Whether this is a good or bad thing largely depends on your attitude.

You will have to go out of your way to befriend the Spanish as they won't naturally befriend you just because you live there. It might be different if you go to school there I couldn't comment on that. It appears to be an active life style particularly if you're near a beach - largely because the weather is good.

Bullfighting is on tv quite a lot and its a bizarre and pretty inhumane sport to say the least. The Spanish are also still deeply Catholic and there's a lot of holidays dotted throughout the year that get a lot of celebrating around them.

Oh last thing, during the summer they party hard. You can hear parties during the weekend going on until sunrise and you won't see a soul in the morning.

For what its worth.. I'd live there.

I lived in Sevilla for five months as part of my university course and I loved it... though I wouldn't recommend studying there.

The southern Spaniards are a lovely bunch; they say that if you ask an Andalusian for directions, they will take you by the hand and lead you there and I had that happen to me a few times. The accent is a bit tricky (they start the next word halfway through the previous one) but you can get past that after a couple of months of immersion therapy.
