Spindash Into Our Sega Quiz!

How much do you know about the iconic gaming company behind Sonic the Hedgehog and countless others?

For the younger members of our audience: Sega, while currently one of the major publishers in the industry, used to be one of the big dogs of hardware. In the early-to-mid 1990s, Sega was Nintendo's primary rival in the videogame market before Sony entered the ring and changed the game for good. Sega's final console was the Dreamcast - and after that, they made the switch to simply making videogames, rather than making the consoles on which they were played.

But Sega still has a place in the heart of many a gamer. This week's issue of The Escapist magazine is devoted to all things Sega, so we thought that we'd celebrate it with a quiz!

This one goes out to all the people who still hear the classic "Seeeee-ga!" in their mind whenever they see that blue logo. If you think you've got what it takes (including a knowledge of some more obscure Sega games), try your hand at the quiz [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/quizzes/view/132]! As always, you can take it as many times as you want in search of a perfect score, but it will be reflected on our leaderboards if you aren't the fastest thing alive.

Good luck!

60%.

Don't know anything about the Dreamcast except for Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi, and Power Stone.

I still love SEGA. Great publisher. Valkyria Chronicles, Vanquish, Bayonetta...

And that Sonic guy, too. He's still good when Sonic Team isn't developing his games. DIMPS is so much better. Nearly all of the handheld Sonic's have been excellent.

Dang I had to guess on some of those. I thought it was going to be exclusively about Sonic at first so when I got some of the obscure Sega ones I guessed. 80% on my first try though!

I hear that "Seeee-ga" even when I don't see the logo. I grew up on the Genesis and Sonic 2. I wish my Sonic plushie's sound thing still worked. It used to say "Seeee-ga" now it says "Shhpkkghshhhhphhhhhshssppk" It just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I keep hitting a bug or something... first time had 9/10 questions done, then it went back to the Start the Quiz! button. Tried again, and it did the same thing after 2...

My knowledge on Toejam & Earl, Space Channel 5, Phantasy Star and Japanese commercials is limited.

Same here. And I know the answer too.

EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out. The "correct" answer is just wrong.

There was a bug in the quiz, it's been fixed now.

Same, except Phantasy Star.

Not sure which ones I got right, though. Started out with 80% and only managed to get 90% on my third try.

I scored 80%, with 8 of 10 correct on The Escapist's The Escapist's Sega Quiz. Take this quiz [/quizzes/view/132-The-Escapists-Sega-Quiz]

Not bad. The only two I got wrong were the Phantasy Star question and Space Channel 5 question. I'm surprised I got the Toe Jam and Earl question right, and I never played a TJ & E game.

Ah SEGA. How good you used to be, but how awful you are now. I could forgive you if you'd stop with that Sonic nonsense and get us Condemned 3 already, but you probably never will because you're too busy trying to desperately hang on to the glory you had in the 90's. Quite sad, really.

Anyway, I got an 8/10. I didn't know about the Japanese commercial or Phantasy Star.

Ah, thanks. I needed that laughter. Great joke. Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Rush represent everything that's wrong with modern Sonic in both his 2D and 3D forms (ironically going too damn fast, too many bottomless pits, and two many enemies and traps you can't see until you've slammed into them and the only way to know when they are coming is to play the awful levels enough times to memorize their locations so you can dodge before they come on screen), and are as far from excellent as you can possibly get.

But if you seriously think Dimps isn't terrible at their jobs, check out Sonic 2: Dimps Edition. Ruins a perfectly good classic game, but any fan of Dimps will enjoy the "improvements" that were made to the game.

Hot dang! 100% in 1 try and 4th place (as of this post). I never even owned a Sega console, though I do remember all the old commercials.

11th place, better than I expected. I knew being a Sega fan would pay off. It bugs me though that I didn't get 100% on the first try just because I've never played Space Channel 5.
