After what I considered a disappointing 5th game, which seemed more Jason Bourne orientated than Sam Fisher, I was really hoping the next game would return to it's stealthy roots and be enjoyable again.

Looks like that is not going to happen. It looks decent enough, but unfortunately it seems to use the same exact game mechanics as Conviction, which in my mind.. is not a good thing. The future of Splinter Cell in my eyes looks bleak. Well at least they can't take Chaos Theory away from me.

Oh and no Michael Ironside? Really?

Thoughts?

EDIT: Oh and is anyone going to buy it?

I can only hope Thief 4 is an actual stealth game. I'll be quite upset if not, as the Stealth genre is my favorite and it's looking like there won't be any games in this genre to play. :/

EDIT: Also Fisher is pretty much dead. Anything that defined him is gone.

Another thing, why is Fisher in the field when he's the head of 4th Echelon? How does that make sense? Do the heads of the CIA and the FBI regularly go out on extremly dangerous field ops as well?

I'm more interested in how he de-aged 10 years. He must be using some very good moisturiser.

It would probably be more entertaining playing Fisher as he sits at a desk then whatever... this is.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

That's what I'm wondering. Not only does it not make any sense, but isn't Sam getting a bit too old for this shit?

Let's see.

Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Unless I'm missing one, that's a whopping 6 games starring one guy. I remember in the earlier games, they made it a constant point that Sam - despite his amazing skills - was getting old. Hell he was old when they brought him back to 3rd Echelon in the first game.

I'm amazed that they're still hammering Sam as the lead for every Splinter Cell game. Especially since the earlier Sam Fisher was more elaborate and sneaky in his routine, whereas the new Sam is more concerned with sadistic torture and slow-motion automatic headshots, and isn't even voiced by the same person anymore.

At this point, with all the new changes to the series and all the new gameplay mechanics, I wonder why they don't just reboot the franchise with another protagonist while Sam sits in 4th Echelon giving the orders for a change.
What about those Splinter Cells in Chaos Theory who were training to replace Sam?
I think all the new Gameplay would be easier for me to accept if you weren't playing as Sam anymore.

I dunno. This new Splinter Cell game rubs me in all the wrong ways.

Hell, have Fisher take the role that Lambert used to have and have you control a new agent.
So long as it is a good stealth game then I don't mind. Plus it'd be nice to have that voice issue you orders as you go around 'being all steathly like'.

Also, creepy Captcha:
"Patience, child." Hmmm... But why would you need that when you can go around calling in airstrikes?!

It may seem hypocritical, but I have no problem with him being rediculously old. There's a weird satisfaction about going around stealthin' guys who were still in nappies whilst you were fighting in the gulf.
