With the new Splinter Cell: Conviction demo out now, I'd thought we'd share some thoughts on the spectacle. What did you think of it? Will you buy it? Has it turned SC for you?

For me, I'm impressed by the demo. I wasn't expecting much, since the only Splinter Cell experience I've had was Double Agent (which in my opinion was just terrible), so I was very surprised to find that the demo was actually very good. The stealth isn't as constrained as I thought it'd be, you can survive on shooting your enemies instead of using the predetermined karate moves, and it's easy to escape if shit hits the bricks. And even though many movements are very automatic, like running between covers and executions, you don't have to do them, and can basically survive on close-up kills, sneaky crouching, and manual shooting.

As a person who likes stealth from a looking perspective rather than playing, it seems like a game that isn't too hard on newcomers. I've never gotten into playing stealth games before, mostly because I get easily stressed and panic at the merest indication of an enemy coming close, but also because I'm not very good at sneaking. But this actually looks good, and might get up on my list over games to get, along with FFXIII and God of War III.

Amazing... Makes all of the delays worth it.

I pre-ordered this game a long arse time ago. And the demo has assured me of its greatness

EDIT: Yes I love Splinter Cell

I've been waiting for this game for so long, damn delays. The demo was great, very short, but absolutely wonderful. I'm looking forward to April, Splinter Cell and Red Dead.

Judging from the OP, it seems it's more like a sneak em up than a real stealth game. You know, you just silently kill the guards one by one without alarming the others until the path you choose is free. The fact I find Splinter Cell to be the most boring stealth game I ever played doesn't help. I'll check out the demo, but I won't be expecting anything good. Even though I liked the first concepts.

Lets hope they don't fall back in the trap of bring lots of firing into it...
I like being able to disable a guard without shooting...
Hell I never learned how to shoot when I first got it and was trying to complete it with stealth knockouts :p

Which game would you recommend to a newcomer? I hated Double Agent, but I hear Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow are good.

Well, part of the game mechanics is the gun execution. It'd be pretty hard to just use take-downs or sneak past them. But hey, it's a fun challenge. :)

I don't like it. For me, Chaos Theory was the best of the series, and Conviction doesn't feel like a real Splinter Cell game.

does it comes out on PS3 btw? i surely would hope so

what i think is that Microsoft might have a limited exclusivity... as for other games as well, and that in a year or two it gets ported.

I recommend starting from the beginning with the first Splinter Cell to be honest. Chaos Theory is the best but to get the full experience, you should play them all.

In my opinion, it absolutely ditched the stealth aspect and is nothing like Double Agent, which I loved, but it is still a great spy game and I've had tons of fun with the demo.

Great!

But REALLY REALLY short.

And they need to change the controls. I hate clicking in the stick to reload...

Panadora tomorrow is great for new players.
Its a lot easier to control than Chaos Theory.
And hell yeah!
If it is hard that's the fun part... triggering alarm etc! It's all part of being sneaky :p

Thought it was great, reaaaaaaaaaaaaally looking foward to playing it. :D

Although it was a it short, and the control system was a bit awkward sometimes. (Kept using the EMP thinking it was the reload button.)

I don't know, after playing it, the game seems insultingly easy especially compared to the old ones.

If you ask me, they've completely redone this game with a casual gamer in mind.

Is PC or console the most suitable? I've found the entire trilogy for only 11$ on PC, and there seems to be few PS2 ones left.

Care to elaborate on that?
Really, it's just a very boring demo.
It is by far the shortest demo I've ever played and it would've been better off if they never brought out a demo, it just felt like an abritrary demo.

It didn't feel like a demo, if that makes any sense.

I don't know, the demo didn't quite fill in a final verdict for me. It was easy and short, yet it was kind of sweet.

I guess I'll just have to try the final product.
