In a move that didn't really surprise anyone today SE announced a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII in Final Fantasy XIII-2 for both the PS3 and the Xbox360 to be released later this year. The trailer showed what appeared to be armoured Lightning clashing swords with a mysterious individual before cutting away to the logo.

Edit: Better logo art ripped from the site.

What am I supposed to do if this turns out to be a really good game? Do I buy and sit through the original game so I can play it?

What a dilemma.

Jesus tapdancing Christ... I was a fan of the Final Fantasy series up to FFX, but ever since then it's just gone downhill. FFVII and FFX still rank as two of my favourite games ever.

The only really good FF game that came out the last 8 years or so was FF VII - Crisis Core. That should say enough about the quality of the new stories...

Why don't they just release it as movie, all the game parts of FF13 were frekin horrid.
I would love to see their stories but I will not play through that bullshit to scrape up the good bits.

I suppose I'm one of those weird few people who actually liked XIII. Silly me, I'm really looking forward to this.

Hold on a minute I've just had an idea. SE mentioned they had a tonne of left over stuff they had to cut from the first game. I think this might be an excuse to release that(with some improvements hopefully) and make em some more cash.

How come none of the other 2 Fabula Nova-whatever thingies haven't been released yet?

And now there's another one...

Really?

I hate it when they do direct sequels... here's you looking at you FFX-2.

FF13 was pretty good but they still need to change the formula around, I'll cautiously keep an eye on this.

Considering pretty much no Final Fantasy has ever had the same formula (I assume you're talking about gameplay), I wouldn't be too worried.

Well, this is pretty awesome, can't wait 'til it's here!

Woot, another import for me! :D

All those people who hated FFXIII probably did so due to the translation. I played the original version and absolutely loved the story, it made everything special and awesome. When the games are all the more like anime like FFXIII, you sorta need to both have the original voices and be into anime in order to get where they're going with them...and I'm lucky enough to be able to do exactly that.

Not exactly what I wanted but at least this way we don't have to wait 4 years for another console Final Fantasy.

I didn't actually mind the english voices (a rarity for me), I just hated the gameplay (seriously, what was wrong with having towns?) and overall lackluster story.

FFXIII has a very introspective story with a lot of focus on the characters and their changing relationship with the world around them, I just don't think enough happened in the world itself to bring about the radical characterisation of your party.

Also, Rosch, Cid, Rygdea and especially Jihl didn't get nearly enough effort put into their characters.

I didn't mind FFXII, though I've never actually played a FF game before. I expect I'd like splinter cell conviction if I hadn't played chaos theory. Still, kind of want.
