Standalone MOBAs for Quick Play?

Does anyone know of a good standalone MOBA game that I can download to play with my friends over LAN or through internet?

The whole "persistent character" aspect I can live without.

That's a good question, I'm not really sure. Have you looked at HoN? I think you can LAN with it, not sure though.

If your mates all happen to own Warcraft 3 you could just play dota, though I never played it so maybe it doesn't have LAN.
