Anyone else excited about this?

I never really got into the Wing Commander series(before my time), but I loved Freelancer, and this looks to be much awesomer. This is one of those games I'm going to upgrade my computer for! And buy a joystick. And maybe another monitor. I -might- be robbing a bank sometime soon.

I put in for the alpha/beta and a shiny t-shirt, a small drop in a $5.6 million bucket, but totally worth it I think.

What do you all think? Is this something you will play when it releases, or maybe drop cash on now? Is this type of game even interesting to people out there? Why or why not?

I'm excited about this, a lot. The rational side of me is telling me to be cautious, and that he is promising the moon(heh), but then the space sim lover in me tells that side to shut up. I really want to see this succeed. Freelancer was one of my "formative" games, and this just looks to be bigger and better in every way.

I paid for Alpha/Beta access, and a couple other things, i forget the exact package I took. But I'll be following the dev of this game closely. 5.6 mill in crowdfunding alone is nothing to sneeze at, especially when they said they only needed 2 mill to attract additional investors.

As a caped crusader once(almost) said, I Believe in Chris Roberts.

I contributed to the Kickstarter because I am stoked for this. I am a bit wary as it is a very ambitious project but I am optimistic nonetheless.

However, the 6 project update emails each day are getting a bit annoying.

He is promising a lot, but an investor is going to match the crowdfunding efforts(from what I've read, somewhere. Citation needed). So he's at like 11 million now. Plus, he said that $6mil was the absolute most he was looking for to make the best game he could, and he's at 5.75. It would be interesting to see how he breaks down costs for attaining each stretch goal, but that's the accounting nerd in me talking.

But it looks like it will be so much fun! Even if it's not all that and a bag of chips on the MMO side, I'd feel my money was well spent for the 70+ missions the single player side will offer.

Here's hoping he does it, space combat sims are a niche that is missing from todays gaming if you ask me.
And he's actually got the stones to do it, unlike the Elite IV developers.
