Topic header says it all, really. While I did play it back in the day, I never got a good consensus from people about why they didn't like it, other than they thought Star Fox 64 was a superior game.

So I ask you, fellow Escapists, what made Star Fox Assault so bad? Was it the short and linear single player campaign? The fact that half the game took place on the ground and outside of your ship? The incredibly cliche story? Or was it something I missed that made it far inferior to Star Fox 64?

I haven't played Star Fox Assault in a while, so I have some nostalgia blindness for it I guess, I remember enjoying every section of the game. However, most people disliked the ground sections of the game, which is understandable. This is a Star Fox game, people want to have awesome space fights.

To be fair, people hated the ground sections because while Star Fox Assault was a pretty decent space shooter when it was being a Star Fox game. The ground sections was a pretty unremarkable third person shooter. Its was dull and left you wanting to be back in the Arwing the whole time, it simply wasn't fun.

If they just concentrated on making a Star Fox game and gone all out to make it over the top awesome, I reckon people would like this game more.

my only problem was the third person fox sections, the landmaster and flight sections of the game where amazing and my favorite missions where all in the airwing. Nintendo tried a new thing, it was mildly okay but deluded the game with it taking up space for what we really really enjoyed in the game wich was the vehicle combat.
