Well since i accidently discovered it was in development (i somehow managed to miss all of the news on every website in the world) its been slowly looking better & better, but deep down inside i know there are two major factors that mean its got an 80% chance of failing.

1.Its Star Trek. Name on good game thats star trek related, they seemingly all fail.

2. Its an MMORPG.

It looks very very pretty, And it could be very nice, but...well does anyone else feel the same?

Well it's being made by Cryptic and they are experienced MMO makers so it shouldn't be that bad.

I'm kinda looking forward to it. I'm not gonna buy it unless it's good though. Simply being Star Trek isn't enough for me.

EVE Online was boring.

This sounds...
nah, i accidentally discovered it a few weeks ago. it looks georgeous, its nothing like eve - you can get away from piloting and walk around your ship properly, and you are able to beam down on planets and walk around, and you get phasers when your down there and ya get to shoot shit...and explore, and if you find a galaxy before anyone else your pretty much emperor of the galaxy until someone with a bigger ship comes along and throws you in the bin. Just check it out, it looks great. Im really hyped. Its also coming out for Xbox and Ps3, and they will still be using the same servers as the PC users. well, ok, thats only a might, but the game hasnt even started the open beta yet. Im really excited for it.

Eve was boring as shit, but I think these guys might do space well.

You see - Thats what im talking about, It sounds ace, but honestly how quickly are all of the nebula's and things going to be found? The servers cant be that big, Especially if its coming out for the consoles (im a console gamer before i get the hate) - Its just the case.

Its an issue of - It looks good, but... (in my opinion)

From your description this sounds like it could actually be good. I'm curious to see how this turns out now. Because I played EVE on a free 2-week trial with a friend.

We stopped playing after a day.

The thing is, If they try and copy Star Trek Legacy for ship movement theyre screwed, But if there is no free movement of the ship, (i heard you had to stick to linear paths) then once again, Creek without a paddle...

Elite Force 2 was fun. Dumb, yes, very much so, but at the same time still entertaining.

I'm looking forward to STO, but I probably won't bother with it unless it's free to play. I think there's some success to be had. I remember when I first saw the trailers for the new movie, I thought it was going to suck, but I actually ended up really enjoying it. The same could happen for this game.

Who told you that? its bullcrap. I was reading an article about the movement controls a few days ago.

Also, they are thinking about having it as a one-payment thing, no monthly cost, but they will make money by adding some rather pointless items that you pay money for optionally (Annoying, but better than Monthly fees)

So there's a Star Trek and Star Wars MMOs coming out in the next year (maybe 2, dunno release dates). Maybe could have timed it better...

Well apparently they keep generating new nebulas and galaxies, Im not sure how it works, maybe like a few hundred per patch.

Well, I'm strictly against MMO's, because I'm a believer in not paying to play games I already paid for. However, this has me interested. I might try it if it seems good when it comes out.

Sorry, My bad - "In practice, Star Trek Online's combat engine currently does seem to keep that kind of naval pace, with elements of the traditional 2D movement of a massively multiplayer game (using the W, A, S, and D keys to move) and even traces of the Super Melee mode of the classic Star Control II. Cryptic is apparently attempting to build in a strategic preparation aspect to ship combat. That is, the best way to come out ahead in battle is to prepare beforehand, ideally with some advance recon on your enemies, including what kinds of weapons they have access to." (taken from a recent gamespot preview.)

So i was wrong about the preset paths, But im still struggling to see how they are going to implement the combat without decending into the pointless circles that legacy led too.

Also planet size, On legacy they were tiny compared to the ships.

I think ill only be happy IF the they have a very wide (like 50+) spectrum of random missions, I.E planetary exploration, Ship conflicts, stuff like that, And even the odd escort missions (helping an actual player who haas a frigate with like 3 other starfleet ships), then i spose ill be relatively happy.

well, im quite sure they wont do stupid things like that, and we shall see if our hopes are true in, say, the beta in a while.
