This whole thing about launch day dlc for ME3 got me thinking. Why is dlc for games so popular when George Lucas is condemned for changing or adding anything to Star Wars. To me, it is pretty much the same thing.I do understand there are a ton of differences which I am sure someone will point out.

Well for starters, it might have something to do with how Lucas's track-record in that regard is far from admirable. Case in point:

Now that's a very powerful scene, and strikes exactly the right chords to make it easy to read Vader's emotions and his train of thought despite our inability to see his face. His physicality alone tells us all we need to know. This falls in accordance with one of the most basic rules of the performing arts: "Show, don't tell", and it is done beautifully.

And then Lucas decided that the scene needed an addition...we got this:

What we see in this change is the addition of unneeded dialogue, the corniness of which only serves to trivialize the internal conflict that was already incredibly apparent.

Lucas isn't lamblasted because he changes Star Wars. He's lamblasted because the changes tend to make the scenes worse.

Thread won on first post, you sir, get a muffin!

Anyway, basically what Asita said, DLC adds to a story, it doesn't generally change things, but gives us new stories and new characters. DLC in the Star Wars universe would be Lucas making a quick one hour movie that showed the Rebel Alliance leaving Yavin IV and followed their adventures as they hid from the Imperials until they landed on Hoth. Not necessary, not changing anything that's already there, simply adding a bit more to the story.

No, what Lucas does is go back into a film that is well loved and alter things that the audience loved, and thus take it away, It would be like if Valve suddenly went back and rereleased Portal but now Chell is voiced by Angelina Jolie and GlaDoS is a man. Those are the kinds of things Lucas does, and then he throws a temper tantrum when he's called out on it by his, admittedly justified, enraged fanbase.
