Watch it first!

Grand Admiral fucking Thrawn baby! Not just him, Wedge and presumably Tycho or Janson.

It looks like S3 is gonna be great. Finally, Ezra is no longer a kid and actually looks cool. Sabine too. I'm not too sure about Kanan's look yet, I really like the bandages look, so I could pretend he was Rahm Kota.

I cheered--literally pumped my fist in the air--when he first showed up in the trailer. Been waiting for someone on here to make a thread about it. I cannot wait to see what they do with him. He certainly seems to be lifted straight out of the books, even down to standing around surrounded by art of his foes. So who else could we get? Mara Jade perhaps?

On top of this, it's nice that the Rebels are slowly turning into the Alliance. One of the things that really bothered me about the first season, and a little be about the second, was that the show focused only on the Ghost crew. As such, no matter how bad things got, you knew none of them were going to die.
But now the Rebels have cannon fodder soldiers too, which means that they're going to be able to up the action instead of Stormtroopers making blindingly dumb decisions and aim choices, even for them.

So are Hera and Caleb fucking? 'cause that's been a plot point that's never actually been clarified.

They totally should is a Judy/Nick sorta' way, but its not stated obviously.

Thrawn is even going to be in a new canon book, written by Timothy Zahn himself. As for Mara Jade, I hope to God we get her. Although I don't know how they could make her canon without (or even possibly with) her being Luke's wife.

I'm not a fan of Sabine new hair dye colour but it was awesome of her wielding the darksaber!

Also can someone summed up on Thrawn for me (not a hardcore Star Wars fan)? I can already assume he is an awesome commander/ general and given to his wiki, they're not going to killed him off (yes I know the wiki stuff count as expending universe now).

By the Force, so many old EU callbacks! This is part of the reason why I like this show so much; they're preserving the best parts of the Legends continuity and integrating them into the new canon.

Everyone's banging on about Thrawn, and it is indeed awesome that he's back. That said, I got the most excited by those Imperial battle droids around the 1:28 mark. Are they Dark Troopers?! They look like Dark Troopers! PLEASE be Dark Troopers!

Woo, Wedge Antilles! My favorite Rebel! That cadet on the right...could that be Tycho Celchu? And Y-Wings! My favorite Rebel ship! Not to fly, mind you (to quote Luke Skywalker, "...they move like a sleepy Hutt"), just in aesthetic terms.

I'm liking the visual alterations for some of the main cast...at least, for the most part. Ezra looks less like Space Aladdin now, and I'm totally digging Sabine's new hair color (I would have totally had a crush on her if this aired during my teenage years). Kanan resembles Kyle Katarn even more now with the beard, though he looks totally goofy with that eye cover. I assume it's a device to help him see again after being blinded by Maul?

Gah, so much to take in! I feel like a kid again! What a time to be a Star Wars fan!

Thrawn is essentially the Star Wars version of Erwin Rommel: a brilliant commander, respected and feared by his enemies, and a decent person to boot. He just has the misfortune of fighting for the wrong side.

They change it literally every episode, at least in the second season, so her hair in the trailer doesn't really matter.

In three minutes, they have reminded me of The Force Unleashed, the Thrawn trilogy, the X-wing series, KotOR and TOR, and The Clone Wars. What a time to be a Star Wars fan indeed.

Did they do a small timeskip? Ezra looks older. Otherwise it looks great. Maybe even better than Season Two which was very strong. Looking forward to it. It's just one more reason for me to want the Summer to be over (other than the heat).

I'm not too knowledgeable on the old EU, or Legends. But from my understanding he's a Chiss officer in the Empire. This is a big deal as the Empire is blatantly racist against nonhumans. However, he's one of the highest ranked officers despite this, because he's just that effective and has basically never lost an engagement so that even the Empire has to acknowledge him.

My only hope is that they don't bring in anything from Shadows of the Empire. I hated that book so much when I was a kid. It essentially felt like the author was just going: "check out my characters: they're all BETTER than the ones in the movie!" Like some kind of fan fiction thing where every new character can "totally kick the ass of Vader, Luke, Han and Leia but... don't". VOMIT

Yeah, my friend and I were discussing her last night. As cool as it would be to see her pop up, we both agreed that we weren't entirely sure if it should happen. Because her biggest role in the E.U. (after a certain point) was being the one girl that Luke actually settled down with. Seeing her be a bad ass the Emperor's Hand in Rebels would be cool for sure, but then it would leave a void: does she get redeemed? Does she meet Luke? Do they not fall in love then? If they did, what happened to her between Jedi and Awakens? Too many questions would crawl up for her, I think.

The Rommel comparison sums him up perfectly, but there's more to his legacy. The Thrawn Trilogy was the first burst of new Star Wars stuff fans got after Return of the Jedi. It showed what happened to everyone, and introduced a lot of fan favorite characters, Thrawn chief among them. He was a brilliant Grand Admiral and while he was ruthless to his enemies--and his crew at some points--he was also unlike anything that fans had seen in the movies. He inspired his crew instead of making them fear him. His way of thinking was unlike anything else the Empire ever used (thus the art thing he's talking about), but I think one of the biggest things was that he is NOT Force sensitive. He's not some mystical power wielding enemy that only Luke can take down. He's not throwing lightning or choking people. He was simply a normal man/Chiss who showed that even without superpowers, you could still bring nations, planets, and the Republic to their knees if you knew exactly where to strike.

Having her die at Kylo's hands and that being a contributing factor to Luke's self exile would be appropriate enough.

Looks like Han taught her a thing or two about hiding in fridges.
I give up, I get the reference but drawing a complete blank on what you're going for.

Thrawn... Welp, that's it. C-3PO is right for once.

Ezra and company are doomed.

I mean I knew they were doomed already because they aren't around in Episode 4. Guess this is why.

But, on the off chance they manage to survive to Season 4... can we have Joruus C'baoth too? As Ezra's new dark side teacher?

I wonder if were going to get the Nogri and Pellaeon coming after the crew of the Ghost, that would be amazing.

"They keep destroying the Sith..."
Well, fuck...

Other than that, I'm more hyped for this than any future episodes of The Freemaker Adventures...

Thrawn, in the old canon, was a military commander of the Chiss Ascendancy beyond the reaches of the Republic. He came to Palpatine's attention after attacking a colony ship headed for another galaxy, and he was recruited into the new Imperial Military, where he operated as a Vice Admiral tasked with border defense duties. Shortly before the Battle of Endor went down, the Emperor promoted him to Grand Admiral, one of thirteen admirals second only to Vader in the military command structure. He made a name for himself defeating the rogue Grand Admiral Zaarin, and then went into hiding for several years after the defeat at Endor. Nine years later, he reappeared and gathered Imperial remnants into a fleet and launched a major military campaign against the New Republic.

He was a well respected adversary, and a capable commander. That doesn't mean he wasn't also a ruthless, cold man who was not above ordering assassination attempts or maintaining Imperial propaganda when it suited him. Though Thrawn appears as an honorable foe, he is actually a win at all costs commander, using every dirty tactic he knows to defeat his opponents and bolster his allies.

Pellaeon I can see being there. Just have him being Thrawn's right hand man with the occasional name drop. "Captain Pellaeon, do this" sort of role. Nothing major, but he'd be there.

As for the Nogri, that would be a bit more difficult I think--unless they're going to completely scrap their whole history and just use the name of the race. In which case, why bother? Just come up with a new race, or just have Thrawn use elite Stormtroopers. The reason the Nogri are so interesting is because of their history with the Skywalkers.
